What soil/compost/medium you are using to pot your roses?

I had used garden soil and MPC but I am not able to find a good area to dig so might buy something.

@newbie77 Having also run out of garden soil I now buy in bagged Topsoil into which I mix MPC, Vermiculite and manure. also garden compost if I have some ready. 2/3 by volume is Topsoil though.

I was going to get either dalefoot or sylvagrow, but it’s only in the pot for a year so I’m not worried about the longevity

Would you not use a John Innes 3 type mix?

Thanks @zugenie and @tack. I think I will order some top soil, MPC and manure.

It sounds so odd that I have nowhere to dig in the garden. Went to survey the garden again and can't dig near conifers and can't dig near apple trees, cant dig the bindweed zone either. Only good place is middle of lawn! Anyway I am so short of time this month that anything that saves time is best choice.

@Fire I'd be interested if anyone can recommend a peat-free brand all ready mixed, Mixing is hard work in quantity and the big pots take 60l.
Edit Cost plays a part though

I use a Melcourt peat free John Innes 3 from shrubs in pots. I mix in a bit of home made, manure or whatever else, as needed.

I dont drive and unable to find it for a reasonable price home delivered. Also my driveway is awkwardly inclined and curved so no big truck/bulk bag delivery possible.

I used it for roses in pots in my previous house and it worked well.

I can't get bulk deliveries or big trucks into our drive either newbie77. About twice a year I use Wickes to deliver (free over £70) a load of stuff, they have named day and text a time,  they carry it to where you want on the drive. Currently 5X25l of topsoil for £15. I am able to deal with these bags using a sacktrolley, topsoil is really heavy.
