That's mainly why I think it won't happen @Fairygirl or if it does, not in my lifetime.
Boris can announce any kind of deadlines, he won't be around by then to make anybody keep to them.

We looked at rural properties in Kent a few years ago, they all had oil fired heating and cess pit,no main drainage. I said to my hubby a few months back,we better not upset Putin, hummm. Some had bottled gas for cooking
No doubt that won't be allowed either. Perhaps we should all move to China or India.

That's pretty standard for a rural area @Nanny Beach. We had leccy for cooking in the last house - far more sensible, but I know someone who still uses bottled gas. It wouldn't be me  ;)

I also have a bottle gas hob, much better than electric, just keep 2 bottles so there is always a full one in reserve. It also does duty in the weed burner and as emergency heating if the electric goes.

I got some a few weeks back and couldn't even get it all in the tank !
£520 for the same volume which was 240 a couple of years ago.
That's a first. I'm using the heating less and less. I'm wearing a rather lovely scarf  ( $1 US in a market in Cambodia )
    Devon.

I guessing that's never going to happen @Fire, just look at the smart meters rollout.
Smart metres come back to the question of enforcing what people do in and with their own home. It's neigh on impossible to insist people do anything and no govt can try, unless a person is causing immediate, physical harm.

I am a fan of smart metres myself, though the tech doesn't work in every situation. And the admin of roll out has to be excellent.

A smart meter has nothing to do with heating a home though. It's an 'extra' if you want to use one.
Everyone needs a method of heating their home though, so if gas boilers were banned, everyone who currently has one, needs an alternative, whether it's heat pumps, solar power, personal turbine or something else. Ditto oil fired boilers.

It's like that Alexa doofer. You can have one if that's your thing, but you don't need it to make your home function.  :)

It varies with how cold it is. From about mid-November in a bad year, December in a mild one. Until spring, whenever that happens. But we do have a wood burner in the sitting room. We have oil central heating round here and the price has rocketed recently. We will be turning our central heating off as early as possible this spring in an effort to avoid buying more oil until it (hopefully) gets cheaper in the summer. It’s mainly cost-driven, but it’s a small comfort that we’re doing our bit for the environment by not buying more oil until we’re desperate.
Carmarthenshire (mild, wet, windy). Loam over shale, very slightly sloping, so free draining. Mildly acidic or neutral.
