Took the cat to the vet. She (now we know) is chipped. Owner on holiday here but about 15/20 kms away roadwise. Shorter if it had cut through the fields and vineyards. Unfortunately the cat's back legs were useless and the situation didn't look good. I hope something can be done for it - her.
Yes @Dovefromabove That's what the vet said was likely to have happened and the cat sought refuge here.
I have just phoned the vet who said the owner came to get the cat. The vet hasn't an x-ray as it is at the other branch which is a hospital so the owner will take it there. I asked if the cat was in pain and she said 'probably' if it hadn't eaten anything it was probably in a lot of pain and cats don't necessarily cry out. That made me shed another tear!! The vet gave it an injection to relieve the pain some.
Anyway, the cat has its mummy and familiar odours. I'll phone the other vet tomorrow.
That's rather sad @tui34 but at least you have done your best to help it.
After we got back from the barbers/shops, I put all my unwanted plants out on the drive for passers-by to help themselves. I then went to dig out the remainder of the 2 yr old leaf mould bin, only to find numerous small roots entangled in the last six inches or so, despite a double covering of Terram root barrier! Presumably from the big Maple just the other side of our fence. We've nowhere else to site the leaf bins so I'll try pinning down some tough plastic sheeting and see if that works any better. Final solution might have to be a concrete base but I'd rather not. I've put the roots in our compost bin and the leaf mould, which was very fine but very dry, into the not so Boggy Bed where I want to plant the new Hydrangea. I've also found a bag of manure I could dig in as well.
Rain's forecast over the weekend which is good news for the garden but not so good for OH's rifle shooting on Sunday.
We stayed in Snettisham for just over a week last year, just before lockdown @Allotment Boy - thoroughly enjoyed it. The RSPB reserve is great - a proper reserve rather than the Disneyland of Minsmere! It's a long old walk all the way around though. There are a couple of really good places to eat in Snettisham too. See if you can pop along the coast to Cley too - we saw a water vole there (on another trip up to N.Norfolk). And then there's Pensthorpe. Glad the cat got out @tui34 - you are very kind to minister to it and I hope that something can be done for it, but fear its owners may have to face 'the difficult decision'. Hope your family members will be OK for the family do @Lizzie27 - and for little Gabriel @Yviestevie. Indoor chores for me today. And when you start on that stuff you see how much more should be done, and then, really, there are several rooms which need redecorating... But giving the bathroom a good bottoming and washing the sheets and towels will have to do for today.
Slightly fraught day today. Coming back from the farm shop a warning light showed on the car … I’m not normally a panicker but we leave for Cornwall Wednesday night! I phoned the local independent Alfa specialist garage and left a message.
The lovely chap returned my call in less than 30 minutes and said bring it here now ... he plugged in the diagnostic thingummy ... he says it showed that a sensor in the end of the exhaust that measures temperature and emissions is the one that caused the light to come on, and it's well known for being hyper-sensitive, sometimes driving in damp conditions can trigger it ... well we were driving in the Fens in torrential rain on Tuesday ... he thinks a bit of damp may have set it off. Anyway, he did everything he could to make the light come back on again and it didn't, so he's happy with us going to Cornwall ... he's told me what to do if it comes on again ... if it's orange ignore it for a while it'll probably go off... it it comes on next time you drive I might go to a garage, but if it's red or the engine starts making an orrible noise pull over and call the AA.
He's checked everything, even the tyres ........ as he said, it doesn't mean that there's not a spark plug on it's way out or something like that ... but he has checked everything he could check, and he cant find anything he'd worry about at the moment. Bless him. I got home and realised he'd not charged me anything ... I emailed him …. I’m going to send him £25 diagnostic fee. Cheap for an hour and a half of thorough checks. 😊

Evening all. Another Groundhog Day here. Hubby is pretty settled at the Home, but was a bit stroppy and refused his Meds yesterday evening and this morning. He was a bit stroppy with the staff and refused to shower this morning, but when SuperHub arrived he got his ass into gear and did what he was told. I came home and chatted with a friend on skype whilst I had a cuppa then thought I'd have " a wee snooze ". Woke up 3 hours later. OOPS. Hugs to everyone who needs one.
Looks like you needed that sleep, Hostafan, listen to your body! Well done on getting Hubby to comply, he’ll feel better for that. Bet the staff were impressed! Very jealous, Dove, how lovely to have a useful local car specialist. Had to take car to Taunton this morning for MOT and service. Cost an arm and a leg, and we’ve been advised it’s due another procedure, which will cost both arms and legs and a pair of ears as well. Lot of roadworks in Taunton, and the M5 was horrendously busy, so we decided to take a shorter, more direct route offered by the Satnav. No mention on it of the road closure half the way home, ended up having to retrace our route, and ended up back where we started. Joined the M5 southbound, which was fine, but we passed stationary traffic on the northbound M5 almost all the way back to Exeter. Arrived home tired and a lot poorer, so went out and took out our frustrations on the hedge. Huge pile of laurel to shred, with a side order of brambles.... This should have gone on the Curmudgeons thread!
@Ergates, my daughter got caught up in the Taunton chaos a week or so ago and got very cross about poor diversions there. We're travelling down on the M5 on Monday so I hope it will be a bit quieter then - fingers crossed. The A303 alternative route is not near enough for us and will probably be just as busy. Thanks for your kind wishes for my rellies.
Thanks for letting us know you're ok @Hostafan1, you definitely needed that snooze.

I shed a little tear for that wee cat.
Do you think it could've been hit by a car on it's journey to you?
