So that's where my rain went! East! Enjoy your lunch @Busy-Lizzie
We've had another dribble overnight but nothing expected now for the rest of the month and daytime temps hovering around 20C and staying in double figures overnight so the houseplants get to stay out a while longer.
Planning to transplant some volunteer fennel seedlings to the veg lot today and then see to the butterfly netting frame as those crafty chooks found a way in there yesterday and nibbled my brassicas. I'm actually growing sprouts for them but need them to lay off the broccoli, PSB and Savoy.
@Nanny Beach I think we need before and after photos.
Lists are being made here … it will have dawned on some of the more perspicacious of you that I will still be on the far flung south-westernmost promontory of England when you wake up on 1st October and I’m likely to still be in the Land of Nod 🛌 … however you can all rest assured that there will be a new Forkers thread for you … dear @Obelixx has kindly agreed to take on the responsibility of starting it off for you … I shall reward her with a Cornish gift conveyed to her by my cousins the homing pigeons …what shall I send, clotted cream, fudge, a pasty, cider … I’m thinking that a nice solid mug from the Bernard Leach Pottery might be a little heavy for the mode of transport involved … what do you all think?

Obelixx,have trawled through,can't find any pictures before slab removal. I always take before and after,hubby did it while I was visiting my daughter.also got £12 worth of bulbs from Lidl over 200 to go in there,will show you work so far and hopefully planted up soon! It's 1.2 by 2.2 mtr
That looks great @Nanny Beach. Sounds like you had a lovely time with your daughter @Busy-Lizzie. Dreadful night - just couldn't sleep all night. I didn't fret about it (no, it wasn't the viburnum keeping me awake!) just carried on reading. Which meant I slept late after I finally nodded off and now I'm all behind. Gardening togs about to go on... Hope you catch up with @Hostafan1 on your trip into the west country @Dovefromabove. And hope all is well there.
Coincidence, didyw, I was awake from 1.30 until getting on for 5 am, then slept till nearly 9. I read for a while, did some online logic puzzles and read through this forum. Luckily today is just a catching up day, clean and tidy kitchen and bathroom, put some laundry on, and sort through the papers piling up on my sofa side table. No gardening planned, although I might tackle the huge pile of laurel cuttings that need shredding. Not a priority as OH has been threatening to cut the grass, and we will need space for it in the green bins. We’ve had two busy days in a row, car service on Friday, and spent the morning in Sidmouth yesterday. Managed to get a seat outside the cafe by the seafront, and had coffee and cake. Then had a walk round the annual classic car show on the cricket ground. You know you’re getting old when things you’ve owned start turning up in antique shops, or vintage car shows! We had a TR6 just like the one in the picture, over 40 years ago. Really enjoyed driving it, despite the tendency of the soft top roof to leak, and the fact that it often only fired on 5 cylinders. OH often wishes we had space to have hung onto it, and renovated it. I never liked the colour though and it wasn’t exactly practical. Also saw a Mini of the same age as the one he had when I first met him. We were both incredulous at how small it was.
Rain has just started so the washing will have to go in airing cupboard to finish drying. I don’t use a tumble (do have an old one for ‘emergencies’ only) and heating not on yet so this is a tricky month for drying clothes.
Harvested some cooking apples today - one third picked, one third ok windfalls and the rest dumped into my slow-compost heap (grass cuttings, apples, other bits). My two compost bins are looking good so they received a turn and stir today. Might stew a load of apples up now and the best ones can be stored. I always take a big bag full into work too.
I hope everyone is doing ok, whatever you are up too.
I'm tempted to have a siesta too @Busy-Lizzie, glad you enjoyed your birthday lunch with family. I'm looking forward to seeing my daughter for dinner tomorrow night. I did a bit of online research and discovered most restaurants in Totnes seem to be shut on Mondays. Fortunately she lives fairly near there and offered to cook for us.
OH left early this morning so I've had a fairly quiet day on my own. Still no rain, I've pruned NDN's hedge where it overhangs our drive, swept up yet more leaves and pulled out lots of tecrium that's gradually taking over the rockery.
Haven't packed yet and had better go and paint my nails next.

@didyw definitely a planting opportunity.
