Good morning SGL, you weren't there when I posted. It is pouring down as usual here. Wish I could get a break to get some more cutting back done. I will stay positive!
Cacoethes: An irresistible urge to do something inadvisable
Good morning all. Lovely lunch with daughter and Thomas. Back to work today. I have spoken to doctor and got some medication for my IBS which has been very bad these last few weeks. Grey day here today am I alone in thinking summer is over really and making plans for autumn? Maybe the weather will improve soon and we can have a last fling!ย
Sorry to hear about medical problems and lack of care. Is there really any excuse for such long waits? Are hospitals so very overwhelmed at the moment? I wish those in power would invest more in our NHS and waste less on their pet projects.ย
Here is lovely fresh and it was possible to sleep normally. I was at town before sun and done weekly shopping. Postmen surprised me with new autumn flower catalogue. First cottage then I'll carefully go thru all pages.
Good morning Debs and Ante. Nice to hear you had a lovely lunch yesterday Debs, but sorry to hear about the IBS. You are certainly not alone in thinking summer has gone as I feel very much like that too.
Ante, I'm glad that you were able to get a more comfortable time for sleeping last night. I have been going through my autumn catalogues too.
Cacoethes: An irresistible urge to do something inadvisable
@Ladybird4 I have an overwhelming urge to pull out all the annuals which are now going tatty and tidy it all up but the cosmos are just starting to flower and my bargain snapdragons which I cut back are covered in new buds so I will try to resist. The roses are all in bud again too so I am being a bit previous. Just seen a whole family of long tailed tits on my feeder and a robin in the birdbath. Little things but made me smile.ย
@debs64 glad you had a lovely day with your daughter and gorgeous little Thomas. Sorry you are suffering with IBS at the moment, hope this bout goes away soon. I was thinking exactly the same Debs when I was looking at the Sweet peas yesterday. Picked a few more, but the plants themselves are starting to look a bit sad. Almost pulled them up, but then thought I'd leave them for a little longer.ย I've been thinking that summer didn't really arrive apart from the heatwave of just over a week awhile ago. ๐ฅ ๐ฅ Have fun looking through your new catalogue @Ante30. Enjoy your time at the cottage too.
Morning all. Going to do a bit more unmentionables this morning plus a bit outside then I have a Zoom talk from Bletchley Park about German codebreakers working on the allies' codes (that shoukd be interesting) and then I might start putting a bit of stuff together for our trip. Going to have to be a bit tactical about packing as we're away for nearly 3 weeks and a bit tight on space.
Thank you all for your good wishes concerning Auntie R. It was unacceptable waiting times but I really cannot bring myself to blame any individuals. Chronic staff shortages at the moment partly due to vacancies, partly down to sick leave and, of course, a lot of staff are taking annual leave at the moment. There was a big item about it on the local news last night - particularly about the understaffing in the East of England ambulance service.
Some of it is down to political decisions and historic underfunding - but I think a lot of it is also because a career in the NHS just isn't that attractive to many young people these days.ย
Heaven is ... sitting in the garden with a G&T and a cat while watching the sun go down
The binmen (sorry Refuse Recycling Operatives) have just emptied the garden waste bin to disturb me after a solid 9-hour shift. A lot later than normal, which means that some of the Cyrils that I knocked off the sides/lid have had ample chance to re-attach and avoid removal Wasn't really worth putting it out at 6.30 this morning was it! I've been to get it back off the roadside and 3 of the large Cyrils have survived. I swear they were smirking at me.
I've stopped planting out the French Marigolds and just leave them in their pots scattered amongst the fruit and veg beds. Here are 3 that were perfectly healthy, flowering little plants not that long ago. Bleedin' Cyrils ย
Afternoon all. Debs and SGL I know exactly how you feel about the fading annuals as I've had the same ideas about mine. It will soon be time to consign them to the compost bin.
Busy, one good thing about all your careful food prep. means you don't have to think too much about what to have for your next few meals.
T'Bird, I hope that you enjoyed your Zoom talk from Bletchley. I would have been very interested in that too.
Biglad, those poor sacrificial marigolds look so sad. Its a great pity that Cyrils don't enjoy grass. That would save on lawn mowing.
I heard from my Bestie about her daughter today. She is being treated for septic arthritis. This is a condition I have never heard of so I Googled it and it sounds quite scary. She is due for some more blood tests at 08:20 tomorrow. If the white blood cell count is still high she will have to go into hospital for intravenous antibiotics so I've got everything crossed it doesn't get to that. Yes, T'Bird, another worried Mum. They are due to go away on holiday on Saturday so that is all a bit up in the air at the moment.

We will have a quiet day, bit of gardening, TV, pottering. I now have too many veg and gluten free food, but some, like the pasta, will keep.
