  • LB the pink panther cartoon brings back memories,
  • Ante I had chicken and herb lasagne for a late lunch it was lovely.  I hope you enjoyed your pasta and that your back ache eases after your hard work.  Thank goodness for the rain for you, good to cool temperatures.  Hazel I’ve a featherbed on mine, but needs a shake in the morning to replump, but I am rather thankful for it.  I had yogurt today.  I love the taste of blueberry yogurt from the farm, so refreshing.  I was feeling rather frazzled yesterday so it was good to have a good nights sleep in the end.
  • LB I very much hope they get to the bottom of besties daughters problems.  I hope things improve soon.

Good evening all. I have had a non-gardening day today due to rain and high winds blowing everything about. Being confined to barracks is not good for me but I did do some baking.
Hazel, my first duvet was a down filled jobbie and it was wonderfully warm and light. Sadly in those early days you couldn't put them in Lily's TV, they had to be cleaned professionally. Eventually the down clumped together and no amount of shaking could fluff it all up again so sadly I had to replace it. All was not lost though as I read somewhere that you can add down (and feathers) to your compost heap so that is where mine ended up. It made cracking compost.

Evening all - it's been very cool and grey today - very unseasonal - thoughts turn to buying in logs for the log burner... Need to get outside before our next trip away but the weather's not been enticing - have been attending to long overdue unmentionables instead.

@Chivetalking - I'm so pleased to hear your mum is making good progress. Do hope she's home soon.

LB - sorry to hear about your bestie's daughter. Another worried mum.

We've had another fall in the 'family'. OH's mate (who he goes karting with) - his mother (OH's godmother) fell at the weekend and has broken her hip. She's a widow in her late 80's with early Alzheimer's but she has been able to stay living on her own at home with support from carers & family going in twice a day.

She fell at some time between 8pm and 1.30am on Saturday when she managed (deliberately or accidently) to press her pendant alarm. Ambulance was called as soon as she was found - but took over 7 hours to arrive. She was taken to hospital but nobody was allowed to go in with her. She was held in the waiting area and not seen by a doctor for nearly 12 hours and then didn't have an X-Ray until the next day.

Nobody is allowed to visit her (unless it's final hours) so I can't imagine how frightened and confused she must be in a strange place with no familiar faces.

I know enough doctors and nurses and have worked in and around enough healthcare settings to know that all of the professionals involved will be extremely frustrated that they are unable to deliver a better standard of care. I cannot imagine how stressful it must be to deal with those scenarios day in, day out.

It's all made me feel a little glum.

Oh T'Bird, that is an absolutely dreadful story. 7 hours for the ambulance to get there is totally unacceptable. How could a frail lady like that be left waiting so long and then to add insult to injury she had to wait even longer to be seen by a Doctor. My next door neighbour is a staff nurse in the A&E department and she was telling me the other day that she is finding her job very stressful. She has opted to do some nights as it means she can have those days with her little girl, Sadie, and her partner takes over the evening tasks. When she works day time hours her Mum looks after Sadie. She would like to be able to look after Sadie all the time but that is impossible at the moment.

  • Topbird as LB said, a dreadful story.  I do hope she’s getting the care she needs now after admission.  To wait that amount of time is appalling.

That last posting made me smile @Ladybird4 - not least because when I was at Bletchley the other day a father was explaining to his son (aged about 7) exactly how to use a rotary dial telephone.Listening to his explanation I realised I'd forgotten how long it could take to dial a number!

Think even dad was too young to be able to explain how to use a "Push button A / push button  B" call box.

Thanks for your good wishes LB, Rubee and Rosie BB.
