Afternoon everyone. Debs I am so sorry to hear about your oldest daughter and your brother. sending up positive thoughts for them both and that their recoveries finally materialise. It is so good that despite the difficulties, your sister and yourself were able to get to go and take essentials for him.
It must be very sad for your OH to say goodbye to his friend but I can imagine the friend is desperate to see his Mum - such a great distance apart.
I heard an horrendous story from my married brother today. Living fairly near to them was a lady who had become a recluse - so much so that she even stopped her neighbours and brother from going to see her. Anyway, two weeks ago, one of her neighbours had become increasingly worried about her and finally asked another neighbour to go round with her to see if they could talk to the lady. The front garden had become very overgrown and as they peered in through the window they saw what they though was a wig on the floor. They rang the police and the paramedics. On entry the police found the lady dead in her front room and after the paramedics had a look they confirmed that she had probably been dead since February. Such a sad, sad story and I'm sorry if I've upset you but it upset me and made me realise how we should just keep an eye out for any single elderly folk in our vicinity.
Cacoethes: An irresistible urge to do something inadvisable
Afternoon All, been over to see mum as my son is working on his latest 4 wheel project round there. Dads garage is a mechanics paradise many, many cars have been serviced, fixed or tinkered with over the years so there’s everything you could need. If my dad were still around he would be in there working with his grandson. Mum is spoiling him with some of her rhubarb crumble, his favourite pud lucky lad 😋 LB That is such a sad story the poor lady it does make you think. Very distressing for all who knew her, SGL I bet your garden is looking very lush after that deluge, we’ve had a few spit spots of rain but nothing more, Bluebells I hope Alfie is ok, you know when they’re not quite right the little telltale signs, sorry to hear about Ed he was clearly very dear to you, Topbird Sounds like you got a good mix of music going on “Sweet Caroline” who could resist singing along to that, enjoy the Ska today, Busy That meal sounds delicious, your friends are in for a treat, Hazel Your poor son sounds like he’s had a dreadful night, hope this passes soon. The no cold caller sticker sounds good, hope it stops those unwelcome chancers.
LB such a sad story about the lady. It’s difficult to get a balance between intrusion and a friendly neighbour and you can soon drift. We are more suspicious today, with good reason, than we would have been years ago. Keeping your own counsel is very important and affords us our independence which is precious.
February! Oh that's so so sad @Ladybird4 I can't believe the poor lady was there on her own all that time, heart breaking. I do hope she didn't suffer at all. And such a shock for her neighbour. If only she had let someone help her in some way. So very sad LB.
@Songbird-1 glad to hear your son is feeling a bit better today. Bet your relieved @Busy-Lizzie your meal sounds delicious, room for a little one? 😉 @Chivetalking glad you had a lovely time with your mum. Aww, lucky master Chive getting spoilt by his Nanna/Grandma/Nanny 😉 Yes garden does look lush, it's only just stopped raining. @Topbird Love 🎵🎶 Sweet Caroline 🎶🎵 hope the weather is better where you are.
Could you all please send your rain over here. We have had none for about 3 weeks now. Not even a spot. They keep forecasting showers and thunder storms, but they never appear.
Done a bit of staking today. Lots of growth and resulting floppiness recently. Next week's weather will probably involve quite a bit of wind
I've just subjected myself to skateboarding at the Olympics. Not impressed Lots of falling off and utterly banal commentary (with one delightful exception). All the tricks looked the same to me but it did provide my highlight of the Games so far. One commentator described a skater as looking hungry and his sidekick responded with, "He's not hungry, he's ravishing." Looking at the uncoof yoof, I'd beggar to differ, sir. I'd beg to differ
Maybe kerby or knock-a-door-run could be introduced during the next Olympiad?
