So far we’ve had plenty of potatoes, cucumbers, peas, rhubarb, raspberries and red currants.

Moneymaker, Roma and gardener’s delight tomatoes, beetroot, carrots and some Tokyo Hot chillies still to come, fingers crossed!

And dances with the daffodils (roses). Taking a bit of liberty with Wordsworth :)

    Red spinach looks beautiful!
I have but a handful of beetroot and radish harvested last week. Beets are fine, but the radish are starting to shrivel. I thought growing my own was supposed to be better than buying in the shops but it seems I'm only supposed to harvest if I want to eat it immediately.

That's the point @delski , to only pick what you use. If you need to pick more then it's better to preserve them for later use.

Yes it makes you wonder what they do to SM produce to have such a long shelf life.  I know some of it is in the packaging, and many things are picked under ripe which is why things like tomatoes are often tasteless, but still they must do something to a lot of it.

@Allotment Boy I can say with a background in farming nothing is added. Things are harvested under ripe, the main difference though is nearly all produce is being chilled within the hour it's picked. Bird's eye peas have to be from the pea viner and to the factory within 45 minutes and it takes less than 30 minutes from intake to finished being packaged.

I harvested all the basil and chard today as we are heading to Devon tomorrow for 10 days, most of the chard is beginning to bolt but I have some more growing. 2 aubergine, 5 courgettes and a bunch of Lisbon spring onions which have become build onions were gathered too. Picked a bowl of sungold tomatoes and what is likely my last mangetout.

@Wilderbeast, I knew about frozen peas, I have no criticism of such products in fact frozen veg is often nutritionally better than so called fresh.  You can buy special bags that will keep veg fresher for longer but as @purplerallim says the whole point of GYO is to pick and eat within hours.  Over the years I have "converted " many a person to produce they normally say they do not like but when they taste fresh picked they can't believe the difference.
