The first time we went to Pisa and saw the leaning tower as we walked thru the arch into the ground of the Duomo, Possum pointed her finger at the leaning tower and said "Boy pushed it over".
She was not quite 3 and a half.

Olympic mixed events. Why? Is this political correctness gone mad? What is the point of relay races where you have a male/female mix? I really don't understand. I'm all for equality, but why on earth can't we just accept that in some cases men and women aren't equal - in some cases men are better and in some women?
Goodness me, if there were Olympic medals for curmudgeonliness I'd be hard pressed to pick between the two of you this morning .......... on balance I think @steveTu has earned the 🥈 and @pansyface truly deserves the 🥇

Why not? All sports have their parameters, all of which are artificial to some degree. If it was just about being strongest over all only the heavyweight boxers would get a look in ... so we've invented structures within which athletes perform.
This is just another one ... and mixed gender relays are just an extension of the ethos of relay competition. It encourages the development of a strong squad ... the national squad who can put up a strong team from both genders will be a stronger squad all around. In all relays there's the tactical aspect to consider ... with mixed gender relays this is a bit more obvious ... but it applies to all relays.
I just don't get what there is to carp about?

I can't understand the endless sniping about sport generally. There's an off button on TVs. Or watch something else or take up a new hobby. I don't like football, but people in England had every right to be proud of the achievement their team had recently. The media is usually the problem there - not the participants. The swimming fraternity [in particular] at the Olympics have done their countries proud too, and given people something to smile about in what has been a bl**dy awful time everywhere in the last 18 months. That wee girl that won the BMX biking had to crowd fund her trip. How many folk would be that dedicated and determined to do any of that? I have put a hat on specifically so that I can take it off to them all.
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

Precisely, Dove. If competition was restricted solely to the highest, strongest and fastest there would be few women competitors and almost certainly no paralympics.
Nope - still don't follow that. I watch a relay and each leg (AFAIK) is the best - the team members get selected because they are the best. I see the best women's relay - I see the best men's - I see the best para. I follow these (what competition parameters there are) are man made parameters - but if you blur the parameters to purposely NOT have the best, what's the point? Why not then have Rugby 7's mixed teams? Why not have 80kg boxers fighting 60kg? Why even bother having any split by gender at all? Why have separate para games? Why argue over transgender people having an advantage/disadvantage?
