Afternoon All, Bluebells You're right the heat affects their appetite, as long as Alfie enjoys what he eats that’s the main thing. I’m afraid I haven’t seen that about the chicks, LB Your trough looks really lovely it’s so nice to see it all planted up looks very natural and a great photo of the bumblebee too. Our Escallonia is flowering and it’s a magnet for bees, haven’t seen any butterflies, Busy Good to hear OH’s BP is normal this morning. I hope you’ve had a chance to get into your garden today, Pizza tonight don’t want to use the oven now 😉
Hello there Chive. When I blitzed my cooker last year I was exactly like you. I didn't want to use it. The annoying thing is that now when I do use it I have to give it a good clean afterwards - even if it doesn't really need it.
RosieBB, I've replied on that thread.
p.s. thank you for the nice things you said RosieBB and Chive.
Cacoethes: An irresistible urge to do something inadvisable
I spent my afternoon in the garden. I've started sorting out the garden at Rose Cottage, realised I haven't been here since July last year. OH's gardening lady hardly pruned at all, despite my emails and his instructions. The Westerland rose, which can be grown as a shrub or a short climber is about 2 1/2 metres tall, no sign of pruning. The Oranges and Lemons rose is taller than me, it's supposed to be a 3 1/2 ft floribunda.
I cut loads off the elderflower tree. Filled the brown bin and another container. It had been heavy with blossom, now over, and with the heavy rain the branches had sunk low over the laurel bed causing it to be in shade.
Then I cut loads off the Choisya. I'd asked the G. lady to prune it, but it hadn't been touched. It had been up to over a foot away from the plants in the end bed but it was growing through them and smothering them. It now looks rather ugly but it should grow again.
I've pulled up loads of finished forget-me-nots in the front and the Herb Robert which was growing through them.
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
Not as much progress made today as I hoped for but got the garden waste bin a lot fuller and everywhere looks pretty tidy. I've just picked up some bits at B&Q (click and collect), which will help tomorrow's efforts.
There's an awful lot of growth happening all over the place despite the lack of rain.
Found a butterfly laying its eggs on my solitary cabbage plant
You see Busy, being in isolation won't be all bad - as long as you don't overdo things. Well done for all your efforts though. You've just reminded me that my choisya needs cutting back too. I did a lot of weeding this afternoon - herb robert like you Busy and ginormous nettles. The Japanese anemones are revealing their thuggish side and I will be tackling some of them tomorrow.
Are you sure the moth was laying eggs Biglad? It could have been feeding on the leaves. Peppered moths lay their eggs on trees and shrubs like silver birch which their caterpillars feed on. Not that it matters now if you disposed of it.
I got a pleasant surprise today when I got my latest annual bin collection calendar. I've discovered that I can now get rid of plant pots in my general waste bin so that will save me journeys to the recycling centre. I will have to get rid of my plant pot mountain a bit at a time though. I've made a start already.

Evening everyone, @Ladybird4 aww your succulents look perfect in the trough. Looks really lovely. @Busy-Lizzie you have been busy today. Hope your GL has done some work in the garden 😕 Glad OH blood pressure is normal. Actually stopped raining just after lunch. But really chilly all day. More football tonight @Biglad @Chivetalking we had pizza tonight too.
It’s been a lovely but busy day .I hope those who have been gardening have not overdone it .I have cut down one of my box bushes that was looking tatty.Tomorrow I will dig up the roots ,bit by bit . I am hoping to plant a rose where the box has been . Need to research how to replenish the soil . I am signing out .Good night everyone .
Thank you for your kind comment SGL. Once the plants have settled in and taken hold they should look better. I will be able to let you all watch it as it develops. Ruby, its a shame about your box plant. Do you think it is box blight that has attacked it? I am signing out too. Hope all the footie fanatics are enjoying the England game. See you all tomorrow people.
