@Busy-Lizzie so exciting, hope all goes well and you don't have to wait to long to hear the news about your new grandchild. Such a shame your son has to wait in the car. Can he go in nearer the time or just after baby is born? That type of glamping sounds better and great fun for the little ones. Sun is shining here, might do a bit of gardening and then relax in the garden with a book. Hope everyone has a lovely day, enjoy your gardens and sunshine.
Looks another cracker weather-wise. Apparently, I now need to make the garden 'visitor-ready' so that hordes of the OH's family can sample my BBQ wares Although it is quite satisfying that my first attempt has been deemed a success, I'm not sure how keen I am on becoming a weekend restauranteur for the rest of the summer I had to put my foot down yesterday as I didn't fancy catering for a couple of dozen on my BH weekend. As the one that does the buying, cooking and washing-up, I'm not sure the OH sometimes realises that it often isn't that much fun for me I've said that we can invite them round but not next weekend and not all at once (there's flippin' loads of them!). Anyway, I'll stop bleating as I got my way. For now!
It was a Kopparberg in the other hand, @Ladybird4. Will that do
Been AWOL as I've been catching up on jobs. OH's cycle ride didn't go exactly as planned.... He phoned late Friday morning to say he was still 40 miles from his next planned hotel and was feeling decidedly unwell. I'd always said I'd go and rescue him if needs be - so that's what I did. Unfortunately on a bank holiday Friday afternoon it was a 6 hour round trip plus time for stops.
He's fine now - he hadn't done any real training & probably just got over tired and a bit dehydrated - and we spent Saturday catching up on the jobs I abandoned on Friday. It was lovely watching him cutting the hawthorn hedge (hate that job) and mowing the lawn 😁
Yesterday we went to Norwich to exchange a damaged piece of camping equipment and ended up buying a BBQ (snap @Biglad ).
It's a gas one and is primarily for use at home but it collapses down into a shopping bag sized bag so we can also take it away with us in the motorhome or campervan. If we have an external valve fitted on the vans we can just attach it to the van gas supply so we don't need to lug extra bottles round.
LB - your brother had such good weather for a street party.
Yvie - good to hear your OH is home - best place for him.
BL - hope all goes well with the new baby. Look forward to hearing about him / her.
Today I shall be planting up the chimney pots and trimming box balls before enjoying the afternoon sunshine. SYL.
Heaven is ... sitting in the garden with a G&T and a cat while watching the sun go down
LB Lily will have loved the warmth. Quite a temperature after some cooler days. Biglad well done with the bbq. It sounds like you had a lovely day. Busy exciting news for you. Let’s hope it’s soon. Wishing all the best. Lily and LB both early birds. I hope you have a snooze later. I’ve just had a cuppa. Have a good day everyone.
14th grandchild arrived this morning! He's called Charles. They now have 4 boys and 1 girl. Maternity wasn't shut, just the entrance to it so they had to go via A & E. A & E wasn't allowing anyone in who wasn't a patient because of Covid, but DIL went into Maternity at midnight and they called Son 2 to join her, so just after he called me from the car park. I will be staying at their house tonight so that Son 2 can stay the night in Maternity.
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
I've come in for a rest. I've emptied a lot of plant pots and got the contents planted out into the garden. Done a lot of weeding and cutting back and transferred all to the green bin. If I cannot summon up the energy for this afternoon I will not feel too bad.
Chive that campsite sounds very glamorous - I'm almost convinced!
Debs, I love foxgloves too. I've got 3 in a large pot near the back door. I have no clue what colour(s) they will be - yours sound really beautiful. Like you, I love watching the bumblies going in and out.
T'bird, you have had another busy time and I'm sorry that the bike ride wasn't quite as planned for your OH. He will be happy to have been picked up and brought home - especially when you showed him the list of jobs in the garden you had lined up for him That BBQ sounds just the ticket for home and away.
@Biglad - handy hints for BBQ aficionados. You get each person to bring something to add to the meal. To avoid duplication you tell them what it would be useful to bring. Coming from a ginormous family this is how we do it and it works. BTW, 10/10 for the Kopparberg - just the ticket!
Cacoethes: An irresistible urge to do something inadvisable
Just come in for lunch, quick ham salad and a cuppa before I do more in the garden.
@Busy-Lizzie grandchildren are the best aren’t they? Many congratulations to all of you especially mommy.
@Ladybird4 they are still in pots but the bees have found them already, they are dividing their attentions between those and the rhododendron I rescued a few years go which is now a thing of beauty. So satisfying to have saved it from its years of neglect.
Put your foot down @Biglad my fiancé is a chef but I refuse to let him cook all the time. One of my preferred options is loads of cold chicken lots of different flavours plus salads and breads. Easy to prepare in advance. Everyone is happy and no stress.
