The utterly loathseme Pritti Patel saying " taking the knee " is " gesture politics. Given she in a government who can not be seen in front of a camera without at least 2 immaculately ironed, and identically draped Union Flags, it's pretty rich.
Since when is it gesture politics for the British government representatives to appear in front of the Union flag? Other countries dont have any problem with their representatives doing this even the EU do this. It even has historical roots through heraldry. It's origins is about identification surely?
Whereas taking the knee is a very modern invention for a political display of support for certain newer anti racism campaigns. It's being done by public figures without any history of awareness of or support for anti racism matters. I've got nothing against it but it has a big feel of bandwagon jumping to me now. Better actions are social media boycotts IMHO because those celebrities often bring a lot of their followers into such a boycott. You can ignore taking the knee of a few people, but I'd have thought social media boycotts have more impact of enough followers join in.
no issue with flags per se, but it's a fairly recent "thing" that they're always there. One news conference recently there were 4, I mean why 4? Isn't one enough?
And the super patriotic folk who fly the Union Flag at home, but don't even know which way up it should go. Or wrongly refer to it as " The Union Jack "
My understanding is that it's only the Union Jack when it's attached to, or hanging from a ship. Another situation where so many get it wrong for so often, that wrong becomes acceptable.
