I'm not sure - I know I have apologised to my wife in the past for things I didn't think I had done wrong - and I bet she did the same. So there are sincere apologies (when in the wrong), white apologies (when you want things to be right and the only way out is for someone to apologise!) and apologies used as a sop, when it's just still in your interest.
Maybe that's it a sopology? Boris has not apologised as far as I'm aware during partygate, he's sopologised on numerous occasions though.
...the only problem with sophistry is it implies clever use doesn't it? Not an argument such as '...I will wait for someone to tell me where I was before I comment...'. Maybe the opposite of sophistry? Can't you add an 'a' to the beginning to make the opposite? So aso[l]phology? I added the initial 'l' to make the word even more apt when applied to Boris.

Neither are believable in the context in which they are currently being used by all and sundry.
