I use AdBloc+ in Firefox; Brave browser (considered safer than Firefox) has a built-in adblocker and I'm really liking that browser. I just recently installed it. I never see ads on any sites I visit in either browser.
I use Incognito Adblocker and rarely come across a site which won't allow me access without switching it off. In those situations I don't bother with that website.
The only post on page 2 which could remotely fit that description says "wow really, more fool those of us who pay then". Even that I wouldn't class as vitriol or nasty. Simply an opinion.
I've used ad blockers for years. Initially because it was so frustrating on slower connections to be half way through reading something and it disappeared off the bottom of the page because an advert had finally downloaded. Now I use it because it's years since I've seen an advert which actually interest me. Much like the additional content in and with GW magazine.
I'm curious. What is the difference between using an adblocker and simply ignoring the advert? IMO the adblocker is simply removing the ad that you'd ignore anyway, saving time on the pages loading. I get that free sites use advertising to keep things funded, but if I choose to ignore every ad or install a blocker app, it's the same result for the seller.
Growing old is mandatory but growing up is optional.
Adblocker avoids the distraction, increased load time for pages, and the annoying tendency for the content to jump around the screen as more and more ads load.
If the ads only appeared at the sides of the pages it wouldn't be such an issue, but often they are inserted between comments on sites such as this.

Maybe it's a subtle way of brainwashing? See an advert often enough for one brand are you more likely to buy that brand when you are out shopping for said item? At the moment I have an advert for robotic lawnmowers so when I next buy one I might look at their brand first, unless of course, like me, you dont have any grass and wouldn't dream of spending that much money!
