Hello everyone, after a very grey morning the sun has finally come through but the wind is cold. I have spent most of the morning on the laptop dealing with Allotment politics. I had hoped to be free of all this now it's more than 3 years since I was chairman ho hum. Off to plots soon hoping to get more digging done.
Afternoon folks, it's sunny here now after a cloudy start and best described as fresh. I've also scrubbed, polished and tidied as daughter expected soon. Need to to do a quick dash round the garden for primroses for her bedroom and daffs/catkins/fresh greenery for a dining room vase. I've got some of those little Easter decorations to hang on the branches if I can find them. Does your OH have any private pensions @Hostafan1? If so, he may be able to access it early on the grounds of ill-health. Otherwise can the Dementia charity advise on solutions. Those tiles sound really lovely Busy-Lizzie, hope the painting is going well, rather tedious if you've lots to do. I know the feeling @PatE, being very short, I found the old x-ray machines very painful, although the newer ones are height adjustable. Still, not a nice experience.
I finished weeding the veg garden and have planted the potatoes. Took longer than I thought, I think I'll leave the painting until tomorrow. 6.15pm here now.
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
Why is getting help so flippin awkward? Can't get carers allowance as I earn too much. Can't get attendance allowance as he's not over pension age. Can't get PIP because he'd not understand the questions and can't be relied on to give accurate answers. Until he qualifies for one of the above, can't get discount for "severe mental impairments" on council tax, nor any help via Universal Credit.
I understand that you would be able to do the application for PIP on his behalf. These forms are notoriously arduous, and a bit emotional, so pick a good time to sit with a cuppa and do it. Do you have a support nurse or agency that you are in contact with at all? I hope this can be sorted for you both.
The problem is, if we were designing a system we wouldn’t start from here.
They tried to remove the glitches in the working age benefits system by scrapping everything and introducing Universal Credit and look at the chaos that caused.
Imagine that sort of chaos hitting the lives of the elderly and confused. There would be deaths (as indeed there have been with the Universal Credit chaos, but they weren’t sweet little old ladies).
Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
