The Queen will miss him ... but good that they had this last year together after spending so much time apart ... perhaps it might bring a dose of reality to one or two family members. I think the DoE was probably a much more interesting chap than we were able to see; I'm not sure that he and I would have agreed about a lot of things tho.

I came in from the garden for some lunch and turned on the TV. I cried, just felt so sad, as though part of the old England had died.
Then OH rang, he hadn't heard the news but he had rung to say that he has a date for his hip replacement, 2nd July. I really hope I can get to England, he won't be able to drive for 6 weeks. I hope France won't be on the red list. Covid was pretty bad here and now we are in lockdown.
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
That is good news for your OH @Busy-Lizzie and fingers crossed you can get there to look after him. At least by then UK adults should have been vaccinated so his family should be able to help if you can't get there.
Proud post on FB just now form the Ministry of health in France. 10 million vaccinations now achieved. Some way to go then.
Shame Prince Philip didn't get to his 100 but a full life, well lived and quite a legacy for the environment and also for young people in all the work he did.
Pottering here. Too dry to plant and no space left to sow till my new shelves arrive and too dry even for weeding so I'm busy tidying up stuff in the annex so I can clear it for painting the last couple of walls in the boot room part and then it should be warm enough to cook and eat in the other part so I can empty and clean the kitchen for re-painting after some electrical work which required repairs to the walls......

It's amazing Obelixx how just one job has such a knock on effect on many others. We've had a brief shower here but not enough to help much so I've just been out to water the asparagus bed, rhubarb and raspberries. Not really warm enough for me out there, only 11c.
Looked at my FB,huge outpourings of grief one woman in Australia weeping for the whole of England.I remember being at work when Diana died, that was awful, because of her age, young sons,a drink driver and no seatbelt, could have been different.Never mind awareness courses for speeding and drink driving, give them my a Saturday night shift in the ED
I wish there was some way we could be of help @Busy-Lizzie ... with things as they are it’s a case of so near and yet so far ... but if there is a way we could be of help do shout ((hugs))
