The first โ€˜carโ€™ I remember was a small Commer van in British Racing Green that the whole family (4 + Granny, a Golden Retriever, a cat and a budgie) moved from Bedfordshire to Suffolk in, in 1956.

Pa started driving with the headlights on in Suffolk because the roadside verges and hedges were so overgrown he reasoned that no one could see him coming in a green van

My landrover was green. Technically it was blue under the algae but even the MOT tester told me I'd need to change the registered colour if I didn't wash it at some point.

Here's my grump.ย  I asked my 45+ SIL (well, they're not married but they've been together for years) if he'd had his jab. yet.ย  My daughter has had hers and their 2 girls get regularly tested at school.ย  He went a bit sheepish then confessed he wasn't going to as, being self-employed, he couldn't afford the time off work to suffer the side-effects.ย  He's been reading that the younger ones, like him, with stronger immune systems suffer more severe side effects.ย  I've heard this too and can understand his reasoning, but still feel he is wrong not to get immunised.ย  Am I right to feel a bit angry about this?ย  He could have it on a Friday (as my daughter, a teacher) did so the side effects happen over the weekend.

Yes.ย  Ask him how much he can afford to have the effects of Covid infection that may last months and even destroy his health and earning capacity long term.

Absolutely! He's probably missed the boat for this week but having it on the Thursday or Friday before a bank holiday weekend would give him longer to get over any side effects. The people I know who've had side effects were all OK the first day or so then the effects kicked in for a couple of days after that. And some of them said the side-effects weren't so severe that they couldn't work, but I guess that depends on what his job is.

Precisely.ย  And he may not get side effects .... my OH, in the same age group as him, had absolutely none whatsoever, and he's as fit as a flea.ย  ย Tell him he may have a good immune system, but brain function is sadly lackingย  ;)

First time out this year to a administer the fondle of death to the aphids on my roses๐Ÿ‘บ
I find it quite relaxing. It's because you have to be calm and gentle, I suppose.

Thanks Dove & JennyJ.ย  I'll talk to my daughter - hopefully she can put pressure on him! He does grounds maintenance, so physical work. His reasoning is that he is v.healthy so is more likely to have a strong reaction from his immune system.ย  He says he has friends in his age group who have had bad side effects - but I think people are more likely to mention that than if they were OK.

I had my jab last Thursday without any side effects,ย  I'm 48yo. My partner went cold then hot in about 9 hours in a day or two after the jab. My mum at 70s felt a bit off one day later.ย

Work colleagues had bad side effects that stopped them getting into work for one day for the guy I his late 50s and the morning for a guy 49yo. The last had a 5pm jab and felt OK until after a 7am walk with his dog.ย  After getting ready for work he suddenly felt nauseous so called in that he would be late by a few hours. He fell asleep and woke up after midday.ย

Now that's the experience of a few ppl I know with the az jab. Not too bad right?

Now I heard from a friend of my partner that she got covid then long covid last year and still isn't OK months later. Fortunately it's only stopping her from enjoying her retirement not preventing her from working. However I have heard from friends of friends younger people who had very mild covid but severe long covid stopping them from being able to work for months. Fit person a little younger than the SiL of the OP.

Can't stop stupid. So perhaps leave him to his choice and any consequences. If it comes back to affect you and others then give him absolute shoot over it though!!!

Further to that my OH had a checkup at the GP
just now ... his blood pressure was low and the GP said โ€˜thatโ€™s the BP of an athleteโ€™ ย ๐Ÿƒ.... so just how fit does your SIL thinkย he is? ย The reaction to the jab is nothing to do with fitness ... as I said my OH didnโ€™t have a reaction to the jab.ย
Think your SIL is being a wuss ๐Ÿ˜‰ย
Youd better tell him only folk with the vaccination card are allowed in your house. ๐Ÿ˜‰ย
