Getting our new garden sorted, as far as that's possible. Immediately we're looking forward to a tree surgeon to actually get back to us. We've got trees and stumps to remove and the local tree surgeons haven't got back to us after they asked us to put the details in a text message when I spoke to them. It seems they're filtering work out that they can't be bothered with.
We need a professional because one tree is too big, a stump is too big to dig out and we need someone to check out all our trees in case one isn't doing well and needs taking out. We won't know that., not experts. It's been three weeks and we've been unable toget further than seeing a text too late to arrange a call out.
Fire - I've gone a bit bonkers for direct sown poppies this year as well. Was lured by photographs of Calif. 'Thai Silk Formula Mix' and papaver rhoes 'Mother of Pearl' to cover bits of a border where I couldn't afford really to replace long past their time perennials this year. Kicking myself I didn't get hold of Calif 'Peach Sorbet' seeds this year.
Also trying sunflowers 'Red Sun' and 'Italian White' for the first time and made a small bed from digging up a scruffy bit of lawn where I'm trying one of those packet mixes for the first time - 'Easy Annuals'! So far, the 'Easy Annuals' are taking it so easy that I've only spotted half a dozen seedlings coming up here and there. Other seeds I'm trying for the first time are Calendula 'Snow Princess' which look very attractive - and I've sown 'Scarlet Flax' to fill in gaps at the front of borders. So - very much doing the cheap option with direct sowing a lot of annual type seeds this year.
So, have fingers crossed for my haphazard sowings and mad colour clashes all over the place this year.
@Fire I’m in a same boat! I have seeded some in March and only 2 spots came up, one with very small Icelandic one (just enough for jam jar padding sometimes) and other spot has something else, but o forgot what it was haha… so I’m excited to find out! I think it will be Shirley Gray (Papaver Rhoeas)
@yarrow2 I wish I could grow calendula and similar, but the slugs raze it to the ground.
I ave a packet of red flax to sow. I have one plant of blue flax and it's is stunning. I love that it opens in the sun and shuts to 'sleep'. I'd like loads of both. I was eyeing 'Thai Silk Formula Mix' too.
@Lena_vs_Deer I am excited to find that my slugs don't seem interested in any of the poppy types that I have yet tried, which opens up garden options. I find oriental poppies a bit big and prehistoric in its greenery for my taste, but I am enjoying trying every other that I can find. - so colourful and useful. Direct sowing is a bit hopeless.
I have ordered some Shirley singles. Thanks for that.

It’s those little things…
Now looking forward to see it settle and take shape.
