Took me a few goes to get into Beechgrove but now I really enjoy it and always watch it, even if there's only really a couple of useful nuggets per episode. But it's a short watch anyway, especially after I ff through the cooking sections.
I do find the low-budget, unpolished but enthusiastic style quite endearing, and it certainly offers something very different to GW rather than just trying to be a Scottish version of it.

For those who don't see it until Sunday [or whenever it's shown in the rest of the UK] there was an item on tomatoes last night, including a new blight resistant one - or maybe two.
    I wasn't really paying full attention  ;)

There have been so many threads about it on the forum this year, it might be of use for those who grow outdoors.
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
  • She loves tomatoes from her "head tomatoes", Kirsty was planting a teapot what a waste of talent, George was talking green manure and Brian was sowing green manure. All a bit bland this week when's Calum back?
  • Our vcr failed to record this week,  but it seems we didn't miss much.

You didn't. It's becoming increasingly poor as well.

  • It does seem to be drifting towards GW, well it can just stop it. Hopefully next year the team will be able to go back to its original format when they can all get together to work.🤞

Never been the same since Jim retired IMO.

    Agree with you @Fairygirl.
I find it rather sad, with some terrible content.

I feel bad criticising it, as they work so hard to get the programme on air at all. When you look at the state of the garden after lockdown, they have worked miracles to get it back to the way it looks now.
I'm glad it's not just me who thinks it's lost it's way.
After all the hoo hah about the community garden it seems to have almost faded away. I wonder if Covid regulations have affected what they planned to do.

Certainly covid restrictions have been tighter and lasted longer in Scotland but I do think that now Kirsty is allowed out she needs to get away from twee houseplant projects.  That teapot was dreadful.   Why not use a bigger and easier old round goldfish bowl which is easier to find and probably cheaper?

I did worry about it losing its way a few weeks ago when Carole announced a change to the tomato feeding regime, abandoning Jim's new found miracle of comfrey tea.  I find Callum exceedingly irritating but he does give good tips on how to grow healthy veg, even if you're not interested in showing.
