I loved listening to Jim, it was always as if he was just chatting over the fence, and he could be brutally honest with his opinions of some of the fruit and veg trial results. George can come over a bit school teachery at times.
We had about 20 degrees and sunshine on Friday and Saturday, and I did gardening in short trousers and t-shirt. After cleaning the greenhouse and the bicycle, I gave myself a rest in my decking chair, a mug of coffee, and looked for the latest Beechgrove on the phone. What I found was a winter episode. The contrast couldn't be better described. On the other side, we need rain here in South West.
It was a shock seeing snow wasn't it @Simone_in_Wiltshire ? I think the last rain of any note here was when the Cheltenham Festival was on, back in the middle of March.
I will be interested to see how Callum's project turns out. Not a huge fan of the Beechgrowers segment, some people are good at "presenting" and filming and others not so much. I can't say too much though, you'd never get me in front of a camera !
I think they were struggling to fill the time, probably because the snow restricted what they could do. A lack of filmed pieces at ather Gardens , built up over the past 2years doesn't help. Hopefully it will settle into a more normal pattern soon.
Could do with a decent drop of rain here too. There are times when I'm seriously envious of Scotland's weather (mostly when it's too dry, too hot here, or both).
Doncaster, South Yorkshire. Soil type: sandy, well-drained
You wouldn't have enjoyed the last year then @JennyJ. Far too hot and dry for me. We aren't designed for that malarkey in this part of the world!
February was pretty much standard wet, windy, sleety, icy and snowy, but March was very warm and dry here. I even had to water some of my pots - a very, very rare event at that time of year
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....
I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
Just watched the show and after reading the negative comments I was expecting a horror show however I have to say that I enjoyed it and can't see what all of the negatives were about, Calum is coming on leaps and bounds in his presenting skills and I really enjoyed his and Carole's chat, I was watching out for pointing fingers as some on here had moaned about Calum but to my eyes Carole was doing just as much of it as anyone else, George may not have pointed his finger so much but he does express a point by pointing his secateurs. This years Beechgrowers seem better than last years bunch and it looks like we will be hearing about Wimpy park at long last. I thought that Calum and Carole were kidding about tobogganing on the compost bags but fair play to them for having a slide.

I think Jim's shoes are a bit big to fill.

I ♥ my garden.
