Newbie gardener, after a major garden makeover and planting lots of shrubs and flowers in both borders and pots I am pleased to see them grow and florish. This forum has been a major source of help and inspiration, thanks everyone.
...a ground-to-pot acer. Even though it has the most delicate leaves, the recent winds did no damage to it, but all the more robust red leaved acers got 'burnt'.
..an old potted rhododendron (?) just flowering.
..and no idea why we have a potted oak..probably Japanese - Banzai!
...Non potted- my wife's mum's yellow rose is just starting to blossom...
Thank you. The light was good yesterday evening...it had that warm feel rather than being harsh - and I also moved from the Chrome setting on my camera to Chrome-II that seems to give a more pastelly feel to the colours. So really the photo was nothing to do with me, just a combination of fancy camera settings and a trick of the light!
@pitter-patter I planted over 100 so need to look it up and get back to you, IIRC the ID pic on it from GC was a lot lighter, pinkish. It does look like a "Hadspen Blood" which is also shown in both light and dark shades on the net. Happy to collect some seeds and send it your way but never done it before so need instructions on when & how to collect, store and germinate.
@Camelliad Kato standing guard over runaway bride! He is around 7 months and is only let out in the garden with a harness, think he is kind of used to it as its been a couple of months since we let him roam in garden with harness. He managed to pull off a Houdini and break free last month, found him under a bush down the drive so now he is in double harness. Normally just sits at some corner under a hedge enjoying the outdoors or watching us gardening as I don't think he likes running around in a harness, once in a while he does chase a fly or butterfly though. Indoors is a different story, loves to chase and be chased.
@Elfer, love Kato's markings! I was wondering if you took him for walks
I hadn't planned on it deliberately (bought the salvia out of desperation in March, which was the pretty much the only salvia/nice perennial around in my local GC, as all my scabious had died), but happily Allium 'Purple Sensation' and salvia 'Rose Marvel' seem to go well together
What a wonderful photo @Athelas@Elfer for a "newbie" you're doing very well, lovely plants, we have never managed to get Astrantia to grow, and I've been trying for 15 years.

Our "no-mow May" lawn was lovely. We'll do it again next year!
Blowsy Sweet Rocket (Hesperis matronalis). Smells lovely in the evening.
@Elfer lovely photos. Also much respect for getting your cat to sit quietly with a harness on!!! Tell me more!
