Some pics of the day, again taken between April May showers.
Geranium x cantabrigiense 'Cambridge' flower buds
The East border (seen from the North) with Tradescantia x andersoniana ‘Sweet Kate’ in the forground
The East border (seen from the South) with Camassia leichtlinii ‘Alba’ in full bloom
A new-comer to the North border, Calycanthus floridus ‘Athens’ just planted. The roots have a nice spicy/lemony scent! Looking forward to the claimed scent of the flowers...
This isn't my favourite blue on a camassia but they are early and reliable, Blue Heaven. The geranium phaeum behind has grown from a seedling but it's a nice one with a decent sized flower.
Have decided I'd like some camassia for next year... any difference between the white and the blue ones (apart from the obvious)? And am I correct in assuming each bulb produces just one flower spike (at least until they've been in for a bit)? Any other tips? Many thanks
I've got Cammasia Blue heaven its getting a bit out of hand now and could do with dividing . I do have a white one as well with variegated foliage which I don't think is doing to well this year. I word of warning on cammasia though the foliage seems to take forever to die back.
Mine is Camassia Cusickii. This is their first year - I'm happy with them in the sense that they've flowered reliably and yes so far seems to be one bulb one flower stem. I think next year I will try a darker blue - like Quamash. Agree with Perki though - the foliage is allium like in levels of annoyingness (I know it's not a word but it should be!)
Re Camassia leichtlinii ‘Alba’. I started with just one tiny plug back in 2016. Gradually collected more bulbs after it had finished flowering (and foliage had died back). Now I have a nice clump of more than half a dozen specimens (as per the photo I posted recently). You really need a fair number of specimens for mass effect.
Two drawbacks: the flowering period is short (2 weeks) and the foliage takes a long time to die and it's not interesting. But the flowers are really nice (and bee-friendly); I even spotted a Cetonia aurata, the rose chafer on it this afternoon.
PS.- Does anyone grow Camassia leichtlinii Semiplena? The flowers look quite nice.
Thanks @Camelliad, I can't really take any credit for the clump as although I planted the bulbs together, I only had 3 but this was in 2015 and it has built up over the years. Your individual ones should bulk up also in time. As Perki mentioned, I wonder if they are a bit congested but as they are still flowering well I'm not provoked to do anything about it. I suppose the leaves are a pain, sometimes I have to stake them away from flopping over my other plants.
@Janie B if it is a decent sized bulb you can get more than one flower spike in the first year. I planted 3 bulbs of a newish pink variety last winter and they have two spikes each.
I have an older clump, maybe two, of semi-plena @Papi Jo, I'll post a photo when they start to open.

My argyranthemum grandaisy getting started.
Quite excited about these peony buds!!
A clematis I thought had died in the heat last summer, looking very healthy now and a lot more blooms on it to come yet.
I moved a bunch of iris to this location 4 years ago, just to fill some space, this is the first year they have flowered.
Nearly, nearly....
