    When's the soonest you can pick a dahlia bud and be sure it will open in the vase?

    What dahlias have you got? I've ordered my first dahlia ever from Sarah Raven (free delivery code:     Au21BB) -- a Cornel tuber, arriving in February.

    Thanks @Athelas I don't know. It's bright red and survived in the ground for a few years.
