Is now a good enough time to chop roses to the ground?

I have two established roses that flower,

and two that are struggling to establish and don’t flower - well the last one produces maybe one flower in a year

...yes you can cut all those down, modern roses by the looks of things...  also, do remove those old manky leaves and cut back that evergreen, roses do  not like to be overhung by shrubs like that..
...feed and mulch if you can..

    @D0rdogne_Damsel
...I'm glad you mentioned that as I've noticed it too.. I put it down to all the rain we've had this winter, more than I can remember since living here, but it may be due to something else entirely..

Sorry to hear you have decided to give up your plot @Mr. Vine Eye but I understand.

I can never quite correlate how someone who presumably wants to care for and grow things also wants to destroy and cause loss...very small individuals :(

I do think Nye Bevan is quite sweet, I like the flower shape.  I was tempted to buy a few more roses for some spaces I've created but I don't want to struggle with them as we always seem to have a dry spring here so instead have chucked down some opium poppy seeds.

Just received an order from Style roses with a note saying that they are now at the end of their 'bare root season' So I guess we continue with potted from now on?

@Mr. Vine Eye That is a real shame.. have you considered signing up for a plot at a different site? Perhaps a better managed one where the committee actually deals with antisocial behaviour like this? I strongly suggest that you should either take the polytunnel with you if you can or destroy it completely.. I cannot bear the thought of the thief having the pleasure of reclaiming your polytunnel again..!

Someone mentioned Silas Marner before.. and I recall @Marlorena had it last year..? I’m just wondering what the fragrance was like? Say compared to the strongly perfumed DAs like Boscobel and Lady Emma Hamilton? I noticed that last year DA tagged both Silas Marner and The Country Parson as ‘suitable for windy and exposed areas’ but they have since taken this down.. I was seriously considering of getting one of those two for the last bit of exposed area on my balcony but now I’m having second thoughts..

...Adrian..  I know @edhelka has Silas Marner.. I had to move mine and start again with it as it didn't like it where I planted it..  can't remember the scent..  The CP has been in a pot all winter, sometimes frozen solid, on my very windy veranda.. it has a good scent if I recall.. apart from the excessive thorns, maybe one for you to consider?..  it's just shooting out now..

I notice DA are at it again... they are only offering Nye Bevan as a potted rose to pre order.. the bare root option says sold out, which it can't be surely..
Has anyone received their new catalogue yet?.. I haven't..

@Marlorena, I havent received new catalogue yet. It is odd that Nye Bevan is already sold out as bare root.

Hope you are feeling ok after jab. My one friend felt a bit under the weather after jab, another friend felt sore arm.

..thanks.. I've got a bit of a sore arm too..

..I have a feeling that the bare root option won't be available until later, for delivery November rather than now..  so I think it's potted being the only offering for now..

...quite an experience at the vaccination centre... lots of people pointing you in the right direction and it was very busy...  I got asked so many questions, yet my husband was only asked a couple...  apparently they ask all ladies if they are pregnant!  long time since I've been asked that..

...a nice looking Army man did the jab..
