Morning all, it's been snowing all night and there is about 10cm at the moment, not forecast here. OH will help me do the bird feeders as I am not always that steady on my feet - especially in the snow, I don't wish to take up a hospital bed! Not sure if I prefer the 30 deg heat of Pat E or the snow. I think my Narcissus that have been flowering for ages will be done for with the heavy snow on them, so will have to cut them when it melts and bring them indoors.
A lovely sunny start, although very cold, -3 at the moment. Nice to see sunshine though. Charlie and I are going for a long walk.
I'm feeling rejuvenated with my dietary effort, I lost 1.5 kilos last week so it was worth it. Actually it's been quite good looking for and trying new recipes. Last night we had chilli and ginger salmon with noodles. The sauce ( not a lot of it) 😇 was lovely, made from stem ginger and fresh chillies.
I'm making cauliflower soup for lunch, it'll probably be enough for tomorrow too.
I do hope that your kitchen gets sorted soon @Busy-Lizzie. I store a lot of my occasional use cake tins and suchlike in the cellar in large plastic lidded containers. They're see thru so I know what's in each one, and I have a few with just Christmas stuff in too. Keeps the upstairs kitchen easier to manage.
Right off to make the most of this sunshine, have a good day all. 🙂

Morning all ... grey here and another cold day forecast but should be a bit warmer from tomorrow onwards. Some frost on car windscreens as I got up and looked out the window . Good luck with the weather extremes everyone. @D0rdogne_Damsel your chilli and ginger salmon sounds delicious , I might do that for tomorrow night
Bright sunshine and freezing cold again here so thermal socks and vests and a high neck to keep me warm. I've been and done the birds and it's lovely out there - not so good when it's grey and miserable and cold is it? If 30C is too much I think you may be living in the wrong country @Pat E.
@Busy-Lizzie I only keep crockery and pots and pans in the kitchen plus a small fridge for milk juice, butter and opened cooking stuff. Everything else, including baking kit is in a pantry/scullery along with a big fridge, freezers, washing machine etc . I thought at first I could live with old kitchen but it was too low and the cooker was awful so we had a new one fitted.
@D0rdogne_Damsel we try at least one new recipe a week and maybe 2 now we can't go out and play. Keeps life a bit more interesting. Love salmon and ginger or salmon teryaki or Thai salmon.
Roast chicken for us too @Dovefromabove tho I shall spatchcock ours. Haven't decided on flavourings yet.
@Yviestevie glad you're not badly damaged and hope things ease for your daughters. Be careful out there @floralies.
Take care everyone. Hugs where needed.

Charlie and I enjoyed our walk, we went to am interesting estate (200 hectares) about 10 minutes away from us. It was a family owned chateau for several hundred years and then was finally sold to the Ministry of Defence in 1970. I think they spent a lot of time blowing up bridges and outbuildings from the look of things. Then in 2010 our commune bought it with a view to developing it as a tourist attraction. The latest plan is to have it as an amusement park all around the theme of music, they're calling it Melofolia. Something along the lines of Puy d Fou, educational but fun. Anyway, many of the local have resisted, they don't want more tourists, bit of a war going on at the moment because obviously business people are very keen on the idea. Anyhow, Covid has put the whole thing on hold for the moment so Charlie and I enjoyed a good walk around this vast empty space enjoying the sunshine, but not the cold wind in the shade. I have added a link to some photos.
I saw a Cookery programme briefly the other day, the man was cooking a whole celeriac roasted in the oven @Allotment Boy It looked very nice, I have never cooked it and have no idea what it tastes like. The soup sounds like an easier start.

It tastes like celery @D0rdogne_Damsel but has a different texture. Really good finely sliced and cooked gratin style, like pommes dauphinoises or grated with mayonnaise - remoulade.
Lots of old chateaux round here too but none has been blown up by the military that I know of and most are still lived in. Entertainent parks here are a bit more activity based with O'Gliss, a huge water park and Indian Forest, both in nearby Moutiers-les-Mauxfaits. They've taken a huge hit this year and are now advertising a discount for tickets bought now for entry this summer. I bet Charlie would love them.
OH has gone off to hit some balls at the driving range. Possum is cleaning her room. Still cold and frozen outside so I shall go and do something productive inside.

Afternoon all. All the food sounds delicious. I’m going to do a few stews/casseroles this afternoon, which should cover the next few suppers and maybe some to freeze. I might do herby scones if I have enough ingredients.
I have a small utility room next to the kitchen which I do most of my prep (out of the way of cats) but over time the kettle and drink making stuff has moved in there too (mainly as we spend all our time in the kitchen-diner and the kettle is noisy when working or listening to something).
