@philippasmith2, my Italian teacher believes that as 2020 was so awful, when our birthday comes round in 2021 we should be allowed not to add on an extra year to our age if we so choose.

Interestingly, in Japan - according to one method of calculating - children are deemed to be one year old on birth and then a year is added every January 1st. A bit like racehorses in that respect.

Stick with your conscience @wild edges- at least if you miss your birthday walk that should surely mean that you can postpone your birthday and therefore remain younger for longer.  If that is any help  :D
I won't be going anywhere other than the usual local walk. Sometimes the weather on my birthday is like a taste of spring so if we get lucky again we might head up onto the hill for a picnic but the way the weather has been this winter it'll be a brief, muddy walk where we have to follow totnav to see all the things that toddlers find interesting which is mostly a guided tour of the best puddles the area has to offer.

SMS from Three this morning:  "Yasss, you've arrived in South Africa!..."  -followed by details of how much they are going to charge me for calls and texts.  Clearly, I haven't arrived in SA.  What they mean is, they are now imposing roaming charges in Ireland...   :/

Why are they doing that, is this another "benefit" of Brexit?

As County Clare is in the Republic of Ireland, and remains in the EU, that would seem unlikely.
That's why I asked the question if his/her ( sorry I don't know) phone company is British based there are consequences for those outside of Britain with regard to roaming charges.

Another 3 weeks added to the Welsh lockdown :(  It looks like I'll have to postpone my birthday walk for a while until we can get out to enjoy some freedom. Or we could just ignore the rules like everyone else around here and force everyone else into lockdown for even longer :|

Come and visit my neighbours.  Everybody else seems to be doing so.

Ask your neighbours if they want to pop over and see my neighbours' new grandchild. They've probably already been though as it seems to be Wales' most popular attraction right now.

Is it very curmudgeonly of me to celebrate that every pandemic has a silver lining? 😉

Not at all.  They should cancel all these stupid "I'm useless but can be a 'star' on the telly for  5 minutes" shows.

I wonder how many cricketers / footballers and tennis players have to test positive before they stop sport

Apologies to the kind people responding to my mobile phone moan.  I've spent the day gardening and only just got back to the Forum...  yes, @Obelixx is right, it's a 3 UK contract which I've kept on with, because it's cheap, and because an Irish phone would have a new number.  I've not been able to get through to 3 so perhaps they're being inundated with calls from people who aren't in South Africa   :/  - anyway, they still claim on the website that Ireland is a "go roam" destination, meaning calls and texts should cost the same as in UK, so I guess someone just pressed the wrong button.  Don't think it was a scam because there wouldn't be anything in it for the scammer.

@Kili - female.  But no reason you should have known.  I've only just discovered that you're male.   :)
Since 2019 I've lived in east Clare, in the west of Ireland.
