    6" more or less.Ā  OK for planting distances but not for woodwork........;

    @Obelixx Ā  and Kiwis too. Ā Still hard to fathom 15cm - I can get a metre, though.

    Fathom is 6 feet :D

    I still think feet and inches but can do a mental conversion from metres/centimetres easily enough.Ā  Likewise fahrenheit - 70 has to be warmer than 21 doesn't it?
    It does amuse me that in a world which mostly uses the metric system, newborn baby weight is still in lb & oz.Ā  I'd struggle to do the mental gymnastics of converting 8lb to kilos.

    Possum was born in kilos and cms and taught in the metric system.Ā  She has real trouble with imperial measurements especially stones and cannot do her 12, 13, 14 and so on to 19 times tables which I was taught age 5 in first year primary.

    Last time we bought carpets (14 years ago in West Yorks), they were supplied in metric widths and imperial lengths.Ā  Very confusing...

    @KT53 I’ve been told Bb a senior midwife friend of mine thatĀ modern babies are born in metric and converted, by the midwife, into imperial so as not to stress grandmothers and eccentric great aunts 🤭

    6 inch of snow here. Residents gritting the road and pushing cars.Ā  Local buses stopped runningĀ  so the idiots who don't know how to drive are out in the snow.

    Daughter in Devon has just told me that their local forecast is for ice tomorrow morningĀ  and her removal men are due at 9 am - should be interesting, both old house and new house are on hills. Fingers crossed it all goes well.

    my elder daughter was born in 1989 and younger in 1991, both metric . We had to ask for a conversion.Ā
    I measure my height and weight Imperially , everything else is metric.
    I never ever use Farenheit, it's utterly pointless. Water freezes at 0C and boils at 100C . How hard is thatĀ  to grasp?Ā

    I measure my height both ways - I'm a little under 5 feet, but in fact almost exactly 1.5m... sometimes useful as a "measuring stick".Ā Ā  :)
