It is bad luck to take dekkies down earlier because legend has it that tree spirits move into the trees and holly (not sure these would apply to artificial items though) during the festive season and have to be released once the holiday is over. Failure to do this will lead to the grass and other greenery not returning and therefore affect this years crops.
