We’ve been out for our brisk walk ... crunchy and slippery underfoot in the shade but the sunshine is thawing the rest. Now time for a coffee and kitchen duty ... mince pies won’t make themselves 🥧Â
Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
We are supposed to be walking later, some of the gc might be walking the same route just by chance. All distancing of course. That is providing it doesn't snow, the sun has been replaced with cloud, & the frost on the greenhouse is thicker than when we got up.Â
Sounds an interesting historical dish @tuikowhai34 and yours sound equally tasty @Dovefromabove. Hope Busy-Lizzie can get out of her drive and enjoys her lunch. I love beans on toast as well @Pat E, nothing nicer for a quick lunch or supper when you're hungry. No word from Obelixx yet? Hope they are ok. We're going for a quick walk, it started to rain earlier so must have warmed up a bit. Do not want snow in any circumstances. Magpies have devoured most of the bacon rinds, the smaller birds didn't get much of a lookin.
Afternoon folks, We have snow. Secondborn has posted a couple of videos of the boys playing in the snow, it's the first time Gabriel has seen it. We have a roaring fire in the wood burner and no plans to go anywhere. Perfect.
We are being hammered again.  More strong winds, heavy rain and hard hail in the night and this morning 3 separate thunder storms including hailstones as big as ice cubes being smashed against the windows. Sunny spells now but still windy and more rain on the way.
It started raining heavily again just as OH went down to let the chooks out and he had to carry them bodily to the polytunnel, along with their feeder.  That way they can enjoy the sunlight and do their dust bathing under shelter.  He had to wait while the last one laid her daily egg.
I have made a spiced pumpkin and apple soup for lunch and there's a bolognese style sauce bubbling gently for dinner altho that may change as I'm going to scrag the "no frost" (I wish) freezer this pm - unload, sort, defrost and re-pack. Who knows what I'll find? With any luck at least one hake head to make a decent fish stock for a soup or a stew.
Hope you got out OK @Busy-Lizzie. I'm more likely to do cheese on toast @Pat E and have beans with grilled bacon and poached eggs. @Allotment Boy I don't like sauerkraut or the associated fatty and smoked meats but I can cope with kimchi so I have a jar of that firkling away to itself in the fridge. Hope you get your walk.
We started our walk & when we got to the end of our road, what a surprise firstborn, sil & GC were just getting out of their car, then secondborn came round the corner and parked right behind them. What a coincidence eh 😄 farm track nowhere near as busy as yesterday thank goodness.  As we were on the final return stretch of the unadopted road just before the houses start again, 1 police van & 2 patrol cars squeezed past, they didn't seem to be in any hurry, all very odd.Â
No walks here - Bella is still whipping branches about and hammering rain against our windows, though we did get a brief sunny spell before lunch. Found the large tarpaulin I'd used to cover the branches destined for shredding, making a bid for freedom across the back garden. The second-hand baler twine I'd used to secure it to the pallets wasn't as strong as I'd thought, so now it's held in place with proper rope. Â
I'm planning on using my new sewing machine this afternoon - just for mending hems on towels and similar, until I've got the hang of it properly. It's very shiny and quiet... Â
Hope your weather is easing, @Obelixx, and you managed to get to your family "do", @Busy-Lizzie. And best wishes to everyone else.
Since 2019 I've lived in east Clare, in the west of Ireland.
Hello all, it's been blowing a Hoolie all day here with wintery showers. The wind woke me at four this morning and hasn't let up since, I think ear plugs will be needed tonight. It's lovely for the children to have some snow but not so good for the adults unless you are indoors and looking at it. Take care all.
No trees down on the drive, just bits of branches.
We had a lovely time at son 2s. The children liked their presents and son gave me some lavender plants for my new garden.
The sky was very black in the early afternoon, thunder and very heavy rain. Hardly raining on the drive home but there was white stuff that looked like snow along the edges of the country roads, could have been fine hail.
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
Storm Bella seems to have died out here, although we did have one snow shower just before lunch. Spent an enjoyable afternoon in the warm watching 'Murder on the Orient Express' and eating chocolate. Commiserations to all those still struggling with bad weather.
