Being a beginner, I used all the seeds from the packet of wallfower seeds, they have all grown beautifully. Note to self..next year, save some. I watched Monty Don doing these on GW but i'm not sure when they were destined to go out.
You know when you take cuttings and you take a load because they probably won't take - and then they do........ all of them. Then what? It's not just buying too many that's the problem😕
Yes... I have a huge tray of Euphorbia mellifera seedlings, from seed I collected. No idea what I'm going to do with them! Why is it always the plants you don't really need that germinate so successfully?
"What is hateful to you, do not do to your neighbour".
I nearly bought yet more bulbs at lidl the other night. Maybe I should have bought the alliums but I'm hoping the ones I planted in March which didn't seem to do anything will magically recover next year. I accidentally disturbed a few when looking for a home for the heathers and they don't seem to be dead so I will wait. There are some other bulbs I need to plant somewhere first before I get even more!
Yup.... I had made lots of room in my beds.... everything had enough space..... then lidl did a special on ornamental grasses on Thursday and 3 followed me home.... they are now being moved around looking for space!
I bought two Pennisetum recently, but wondering whether to plant them out or not. I've read they're not winter hardy. Are you going to chance leaving yours out and hope they come back, or shelter them in a coldframe until spring?
Hi @MsCatFly I live in a town centre in Suffolk and have a walled garden so it is very sheltered. I've planted 3 in a clump together close to a tall brick wall in a very sunny well drained bed. When the winter comes im going to cover with straw and various bits of plants that I've cut back. I use this as a mulch and it rots and breaks down into the skull by the time everything needs to flower again. I don't feed my soil or use pellets or poisons, it's a no dig..... unless I'm trying to cram in more plants that is,!!!
I've taken to putting spare plants, either from sowing too many seeds or from splitting perennials, outside my front door with a notice" free". Although we live on a quiet lane it's amazing how quickly they go. That way I avoid the feeling of guilt that I would have if I just threw them in the compost.
Have to admit I’m another “over seeder” I’ve currently given up pricking out the calendula plants.... luckily I have friends who are happy to receive them and spend the time splitting them up. I’ve still got 24 pots growing nicely of which I probably need 6! Will be the same with the cornflower I fear.
Marne la vallée, basically just outside Paris 🇫🇷, but definitely Scottish at heart.

Just successfully resisted a gorgeous big pot of pink chrysanthemums at Homebase, but it wasn't easy.
