  • wowee what a beautiful garden! :o  @JAC51

I'm becoming a bit of a plant addict myself, both inside and out. Barely any room left, my home is turning into a jungle..

The more the merrier, we need more green in the world anyway :)

    Sigh.....
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...

I am training myself to be picky about plants so that I am controlled.
For example, a rose has to be repeat-flowering, scented, semi-double and disease resistant! Otherwise I would 'try' not to buy!  :p

Yup.... I had made lots of room in my beds.... everything had enough space..... then lidl did a special on ornamental grasses on Thursday and 3 followed me home.... they are now being moved around looking for space!

You made me go to Lidl!

They only had Miscanthus strictus 'Dwarf' which I don't really want, but I did grab some incredibly cheap Allium 'Gladiator' bulbs; £1.78 for 2 - which sounds a lot until you compare with other sellers.
@Loxley That's very, very, very cheap. I don't have a lidl near here, how frustrating... Congratulations on a great purchase!

The bargain bucket is my down fall, I buy too many half dead plants at rock bottom prices, because most of the time I know I can bring them back. And then have nowhere for them!
  • Sorry for letting you know of plant temptations  @Loxley
Also sorry you missed the ones you wanted. It is worth grabbing one of lidl promotions leaflet that let you know of next weeks offers.  There is always a plant section.
I haven't planted my 3 yet.  Garden is full of different grasses.  No room at all but couldn't resist!
  • @JAC51   Oh, your garden is splendiferous!!!  I resisted buying heather and aster etc. down at the markets today, but couldn't resist picking the different coloured salvia on the walk home.  Cuttings are struck and they are bedded and awaiting Spring!
I was going to ask if there is still time to take salvia cuttings then I saw you are in France.  The weather in Glasgow has been lovely today but it's a bit late for cuttings here I think.  Oh well, that'll be a trip to the garden centre in spring then!

    goddammit.

today I was doing so so well then accidentally bought four polyanthus plants on the afternoon school run.
Ha ha "accidentally" bought plants!! 😁
  • Another Plant addict here. Planting in pots keeps me under a bit of control.... but I have to admit I’ve recently bought bigger planters to grow a better range...oops.
Marne la vallée, basically just outside Paris 🇫🇷, but definitely Scottish at heart.

I made a pact with myself this year, forced due to lockdown, that instead of blindly buying more plants I would propagate from my existing stock.  I am also trying to break my habit of cramming things in, in tiny amounts rather than having a drift of the same plant.  I realised I'd ended up with bitty beds.

When researching what to put in a space I realised i already had suitable fodder out there and so have done tons of splitting this autumn.

I'm hoping that my rearrangements and plantaholic mind retraining will look great in next years garden.
  • I'm afraid I suffer from this ailment too, I've bought 72 perennial plug plants dead cheap and definitely don't need them but just had to do it 😭😭😭
