Hi, Newbie and first time commenter, I got a bit carried away when the plant catalogues arrived when I was shielding and now have got about 60+ perennials , ten varieties, all growing nicely in individual growing bags and pots. I understand these should be placed in a cold frame to overwinter, however no cold frame but I do have an empty greenhouse, is a green house just a big cold frame . Also I sowed wallflowers, all more than ready to be pricked out but should they also go into the bags and kept somewhere. I’ve  got bare root wallflowers arriving next month and I am  in the North East of Scotland. I’m a fairly new convert to perennials, until now I’ve just bought annuals and not done much more for the rest if the year . I too think I may be an addict, i’ve done five pots of Montys bulb lasagnes and can’t stop planning more. Confession time, just ordered some Ammi Majus seeds too.
  • Hi Jillus your greenhouse will be great as long as you can also provide a bit of cover against frost. Some bubble wrap or fleece is a great “ extra” protection below and above delicate plants. If you have staging or shelves you should easily be able to protect from a cold floor or frozen earth.

    how far “north” are you?
Marne la vallée, basically just outside Paris 🇫🇷, but definitely Scottish at heart.
  • In Fife , North East Fife😬 so I guess not overly North.
  • No not too north. I’m from Perth originally, then Livingston before moving here to France so know the area. Certainly not the “worst” of what Scotland can throw at you, especially if you have a fairly sheltered space.

  • Hi

I am a plant addict too. Wherever I go I find myself looking out for plants. My weakness is rescuing from the nearly dead shelves
  • It sounds like there's enough of us for a support group!
Personally I think there are worse things we could spend money on!! Can't see it stopping me! Apparently first step is admitting we have a problem..... :o
  • Can't see plants anonymous catching on 🤣🤣

Your greenhouse will be perfect for overwintering small plants @Jillus :)
They just need protection from the worst weather.
Don't be in a rush to put them outdoors, or plant them out. Wait until they're growing strongly, and temps are high enough that they'll continue doing that. Acclimatise them  to the outdoors for a good while in spring - later spring, rather than April, but you just have to use your judgement with conditions  :)
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...

You know when you take cuttings and you take a load because they probably won't take - and then they do........ all of them. Then what?
It's not just buying too many that's the problem😕
    In London. Keen but lazy.
  • Yup B3 this is a problem.  Or when all the seeds germinate. Being a pessimist, i would over sow, then be inundated with seedlings to tend!
