Ante and Chive - its Friday! Look forward to your weekend. I guess you might be harvesting again Ante and you painting again Chive? SGL I hope you got a good night's sleep. I did last night after a fairly sleepless night on Wednesday. I've got a quiet 'read the car manual' and sort out the insurance day but I'm at the Dentist this afternoon for a check up.

LB enjoy your new car and I hope you get on okay at the dentist.  Lily I’m glad you’re pleased with the new hair cut.  Chive I hope you’ll get the painting part done this weekend.  It’s not too bad when you get started.  Hazel your garden must be looking lovely now.

Afties all, just back from the Dentist's. Had a check up and a manual scale. All is OK. As I was leaving I said my usual 'see you in 6 months' and dentist dropped the bombshell - he and his wife (also a Dentist in the practice) are retiring in 2 weeks. I was gutted! The practice is closing and the lovely receptionist who I've known for over thirty years is going to be redundant. We were both a bit teary eyed. The end of an era. I asked the Dentist if the present situation had precipitated his decision and he said that it had. Not being able to hug him he gave me a fist bump instead. I wished him and his wife all the very best in their retirement years. The receptionist saw me out and I couldn't hug her either - another fist bump. I feel quite sad. Sorry, don't want to be a moaning minnie.
On a more cheery note, the car is fab. I was traumatised this morning as I discovered it had no CD player. I'll have to transfer all my birdsongs onto a USB flash drive. Can't drive anywhere without listening to them. I'm going to have a lazy evening now and look forward to watching GW - wish it was Adam.

  • Oh goodness LB, where will you go now. I can understand your dentist thinking about retirement during these awful last months, but that's not much notice for you. I would imagine it's going to be difficult to find one nearby and taking on new patients too. Really sad, must have been a difficult decision for them to make.
Oh heck LB, shame about no CD in your car, does it have a radio though.
We were very brave this morning and got a bus to a nearby garden centre that had a make over (Bit of an understatement really, more of a rebuild)  Its very large and lots to look at, but it's more gifts than plants. The coffee shop/restaurant  looked really nice,  but unfortunately because of Covid the queuing blocked lots of aisles......so at the moment it's sort of in the wrong place. Everything is very expensive.....plants included. But it was nice to get out and have a mooch. The queue was too long for the coffee shop, so we walked to a nearby pub and had a drink in the garden. Didn't have to go inside at all as the drinks were brought to us. We then wandered back to the bus stop and came home.
It's been beautiful here today, hope the weather stays like this for awhile.

Chive, I forgot to answer your question. My car is called Vinny
SGL, I'll get some recommendations for Dentists from my neighbours across the road. The car does have a radio so I am not without sounds. I just prefer to listen to my RSPB bird songs on CD. Nothing is insurmountable. I'm glad that you and your OH had a trip out. Like you, I'm a bit disappointed when garden centres become more like furniture and gadget centres rather than concentrating on the plants. They all have to have a great cafe with cake though!
