I'd quite like the legal right to treat anything that uses my property as a toilet without permission as vermin but suspect that would be viewed as a touch extreme by most.

Legal duty of care for cats as with dogs? Yes please.

What would that entail, and for whom?

I always think of cats as being like peacocks - they don't belong to anyone except themselves.

I'm not getting into this on a discussion of artificial grass. There have been far too many rows on the forum about cats. There are plenty of threads to search if you would like to explore duty of care for cats. I'm out.

    Best wishes to all.
  • Agree @Fire done to death...and I absolutely love moggies 😉

I should perhaps mention I wasn't the instigator of this petition. I was merely sent the link and thought it may be something the members of this forum may like to consider.
  • I personally hate the stuff, have always wondered how you cope when you dogs has had the "runs".  I wrote to the CEO of one of the big companies, who also said the cost (I gather decent stuff is around £40 per sq.mt, plus installation) and said (like someone on here) the cost is off set, by petrol, leccy, feeding, watering the real thing.  I have a second hand qualcast hand mower, I don't feed, water or weed the lawn.  I shall get my daughter to put a picture of my "Zen" car park on here later.  We live on the outskirts of a village, narrow road, people opposite have 3/4 cars, vans, campers, most of whome cannot be bothered to park in their drives and move vehicles, so park outside or opposite our place, even reversing in with my estate is a nightmare.  We dont flood the road as was suggesed even by Alan Titchmarsh, the drive drains towards our bungalow, and acro drains. One area is shingle, planted, plenty of pots for the pollinators and a border.  The CEO did not reply.
  • I'm not in favour of going around banning things ... I know of folk for whom artificial grass has been wonderful ... it can enable young wheelchair users to use a family garden independently rather than needing help on grass etc ... but as it can seriously negatively impact on drainage and affect neighbouring properties I think there should be some sort of planning process and building regs so that the job is done properly.  I also think there should be a limit to the size permitted.

Maybe somebody should start a petition to ban petitions :D
  • Ha!ha! @KT53 what started as a way to engage the populous with politics has become the latest instrument in the ugly culture wars currently at full blaze on social media. Thankfully the youngsters are getting it that in order to actually change something they need to be present and counted in the streets... armchair activism can only go that far.
