I am looking forward to the new show and new format. I am a bit surprised that they could even find a way round the restrictions and rules - but that’s 2020 for you! As for the same sex couple, I say... at last! Many of the dances have traditional ‘male’ and ‘female’ roles, but if you think about it - most are just about one of the pair leading so absolutely no reason why this can’t be swapped or re-interpreted. I would like to see more of the non-classic dances anyway, and these are certainly ripe for reviewing and exploring gender roles, non-dominant roles and new ideas. With lockdowns and tough days in work, this is Saturday evenings sorted for the next 9 weeks - I am happy with that.
I've enjoyed it since Day 1 but can't get enthusiastic this year. Voting has always been a bit iffy when soap stars are voted for because of the show's popularity. Eurovision has also become meaningless because of partisan voting, too, and I've got a feeling the LGBT fraternity will do the same with Strictly, purely to make a point?
Well I love it! I smiled all the way thru and altho yes it was different, theres no getting away from the fact that it's different this year it was great.cant wait to see the dances next week and zoe on takes two
No, Dove. In my innocence I viewed it as a conventional hetero competition that won't be the same if altered by the introduction of same sex couples who, again in my innocence, will be artificially patronised by those of the same ilk, rather than for their dancing expertise. Had it been deemed desirable to examine the performances of same sex couples, I'd have endorsed a 'Same Sex Strictly' to satisfy that demand AND assess its acceptability via the viewing figures.
People are people. Dancers are dancers. Their sexuality shouldn't matter in the least - after all, there have been plenty of gay contestants (and professional dancers) on the show in the past. I'll be as interested to see how the same sex couple get on, as all the rest. And I suspect that the public will, as usual, vote for their favourite "celebrity" irrespective of their sexual orientation (and also irrespective of their dancing ability, if previous years are anything to go by)...
Since 2019 I've lived in east Clare, in the west of Ireland.
I couldn't really be bothered this year, not because I thought it wouldn't be good but just because, well, 2020. But I watched it anyway and really enjoyed it, very much looking forward to seeing the rest of the series. And think they've managed the whole 'how to make a series during a pandemic' thing admirably. Bravo.

Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
But don't feel that bothered about it this year.
