I could happily go the rest of my life without mozzarella @Dovefromabove as well as all the Gruyère and Emmenthal I've encountered here so far.  Bland beyond words.

Hello all! Just been reading back, I seem to have been busy over the last few days with one thing and another. We went on our usual SM run this morning and the the place was nearly empty, there were plenty of loo rolls and all other basics, quite a leisurely shop and no bumping into anyone, it seemed very quiet everywhere.
@D0rdogne_Damsel you are right about the quarantine rules, she has to quarantine for two weeks in the UK before she can come back and isolate for a further seven, I don't envy you having to tell her but I think needs must!
This is last day of warm weather down here also for a while so must get the rest of my tomatoes and aubergines in.

Afternoon all, I've been a bit quiet lately, as you can imagine it's been a busy time.  I've sorted out most of mums stuff and have been spending quite a bit of time helping Secondborn with the boys.  The funeral is next Tuesday so I'm hoping things settle down a bit once we have got through that.  The minister is coming here in a minute to sort out a few details.  Just want to thank @Fairygirl I would have sent you a pm but I think you are having a few problems with them.

    Hope everyone is OK.
Hi from Kingswinford in the West Midlands
  • Only just caught up again at the third attempt. Commiserations to all those with troubles & woes.
Not a lot to report here except our one bit of excitement at the we/end. The Battle of Britain memorial flight went right over our garden on their way back after the flypast in London- great to see.
Our big snag with online shopping is the things that don't come which we know are stocked in our local store, now the GC's are back home we were considering going back to the SM ourselves but the infection rate is sharply up here so we may have to put up with online a bit more. The Sains delivery man was over an hour early this morning, meant a bit of a scramble as they bring crates to the door & expect you to empty them immediately.

It's because most of the home deliveries come from a central warehouse rather than your shop @Allotment Boy, although it seems to vary depending on where you are.
Apologies for my gloomy post earlier. @Dovefromabove's experience struck a chord.
I've been out and had a chat with Dave and we've put the world to rights, although he mainly just wants me to feed him of course.  ;)
He comes quite close, but he's a bit shy yet of taking food from my hand. It's been lovely here, although a bit cloudy this afternoon. A lovely autumnal day. Perfect for me.
Getting exciting with the chooks now @Obelixx. Is it them that's getting the swing, or you?  ;)
That was a bit more of an ordeal then @Liriodendron re the glass. Better to get it sorted though.
Hope things are going a bit better now @floralies:)
I seem to be getting PMs now @Yviestevie . No need to say anything though  :)
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

Sounds like a lot of bovver @Liriodendron.  A few years ago on Belgium I got a normal splinter in my thumb and it swelled up hugely.  Normal GP on maternal leave and the replacement supposedly a sports injury expert.  Gardening is clearly not sport.  He did a local anaesthetic, footled around and removed 2mm of deeply buried splinter then gave me some stuff in which to soak it to soften and clean it.   3 days later a further 13mm of splinter came out and my thumb finally healed after shedding layers of skin.

Funnily enough they will all be "M"s @Dovefromabove.   I've had Milly Mondy Mandy going round my head for weeks now so that's 3.  Then there'll probably be a Madame, a Merry and a Mother Plucker - once I've sorted out their characters and who's boss and who's a prima donna.

The swing is for the hens @Fairygirl.  Apparently it helps to entertain and relax them.

@D0rdogne_Damsel - 'fraid she needs telling about quarantine and certainly kept away from your other staff and customers till she has proved herself not to be infected or infectious.  Silly mare!

@Yviestevie and @floralies - not surprised you've both been busy and quiet.  Such a lot on your respective plates at the mo.  Hope it's easing for you and those involved.

@D0rdogne_Damsel the advice given by @floralies and @Obelixx is correct. OH went to Norfolk on Monday from Bergerac and he had to printout a form from the Internet giving all his details and where he would be staying for the 2 weeks quarantine. There is a hefty fine if you are caught not obeying, starting at £1000. I don't think there is quarantine for coming back to France but the French contact quarantine is 1 week so she shouldn't work for you when she gets back for a week.

Had to go to the SM this afternoon for milk, fruit and veg. Hardly anyone there.

  • Well, the glass saga continues...  the x-ray showed there was indeed still some embedded in the finger, so the hospital doctor injected some anaesthetic and tried to remove it.  Without success.  Hubby now has an appointment at the Emergency Surgery Unit in Galway hospital, an hour and a half's drive away, at... 7.30am tomorrow...  daughter will ferry him from their home, because she won't get lost in Galway.  He'll be getting up rather early in the morning.  :o
Since 2019 I've lived in east Clare, in the west of Ireland.
  • Evening all,
Hugs to @Yviestevie. Ugh needed I'm sure. 🤗
@Liriodendron, certainly turning into a saga, hopefully tomorrow will be the end of it. 🙄
Thanks to all who commented on my employee situation, she wasn't happy with my decision to 'ban' her from working for 7 days after her return, however, she's now decided not to go - a sensible move I believe. There's a lot of people making a lot of sacrifices to help with the current situation and not whizzing over to London for the weekend for a hug is not the worst it could be.
Anyway, I'm having a whole day off tomorrow, going to garden all day and am planning a dinner for friends on Friday evening, something not on my usual menu - added complication, one of the guests is gluten intolerant. Looking for something that means once guests arrive I am able to chat and not stuck over the cooker, but I want it to be nice/special/ out of the ordinary - my friends spent last weekend in a 5 🌟 hotel, celebrating their engagement - no pressure but I want it to be as good as.....😅🙄😁
    Ideas anyone?
