We have been told that free jabs for the over 50s won’t start until January. Over 65s and other exemptions have started. Of course if you pay you can have one now. I am encouraged by your comments let’s hope our surgery is as organised as others.Â
I had my jab yesterday at the surgery . It all went very, very smoothly. But - always a but with me - the organisation was a bit ott. I was early (15 mins) for my given time slot so popped round to see if they were busy on the off-chance, expecting to see an organised queue (every other year, the queue is a good few hundred feet of closely spaced people). No queue - just two 'official' lasses sitting outside. I explained I was a bit early and said I could walk round the block (a few times) and come back later - but they took my details, checked I had my mask, sanitised my hands - and ushered me through the open door to two lasses sitting at the next desk. That pair took my details again and passed me on to a guide who 'would show me the way'. She took me all of two steps and passed me onto guide 2 who took me another 5 or s6 steps to where the nurses' cubicles were. The nurses were lined up waiting and actually had a battle over who was going to jab me. Once done, the nurse handed me over to guide 3 who showed me out of the back door. 8 people involved for 1 jab - and I never saw anyone else in the building apart from the staff.
Maybe all the other patients had also been notified by text this year and hadn't then got an appointment.

I've heard nothing about my free flu jab (I'm 54) and I don't really expect to be offered one until the flu season is well underway. Under 65s without other risks will (rightly) be at the back of the queue for the free ones. My employer has said they'll reimburse me for a paid one if I can get it earlier so I will be checking with the local pharmacy (OH has to pick up a prescription tomorrow so I'll ask him to ask about it while he's there).
