thanks @Fire To be fair I have to credit Mrs P for influencing rose colour choices. Left to me this would have been dark and darker red... I'll take credit for the grey & silver underplanting tho. Hopefully we'll have a good look at how they complement each other this year.
hi, would any of you be able to recommend bamboo that will not burst out of a pot but is not too miniature a number of varieties would be appreciated? also jungle-type plants dramatic effect. the sun shines until 4 pm, its an area that is outside the kitchen in a square made by the family room si it has 3 sided we have a gazebo and nice sitting area, with a herbal bed and a flower shrubs roses
Here is my representation of the first year's planting & progress on this new bed. If space permits, depending on growth and spread of these roses this year, I may add 2 more small roses in front of Desdemona and Lichfield Angel. These will likely be Gruss an Aachen and Pearl Drift respectively. Tops of the pergola are both around 2.50m above ground and I'm hopeful that eventually the climbers will form a canopy. Other than time for it all to grow in and mature, I think that is phase 1 done.
So now to phase 2. This lower pergola extension I want to carry a climber or rambler which can be trained to form a continuous canopy connecting upper, middle and lower sections
Thank you @Marlorena Before I can build my pergola extension, I also need to rebuild the flank wall which is bulging badly and create planting pockets for a couple of climbers planted in autumn. This should be enough to keep me busy for this year fitting it in when I can find some time in among other internal projects Much of the plan is in my head at the moment, but the image I have is of a wall of white blossom to screen the garage and a canopy of hanging blooms creating a walkway over the steps. I'm thinking a vigorous fragrant white rambler with simple open flowers for this. Something like Adelaide d'Orleans or Aimee Vibert
