  • Ante; they leave the boats out? We bring ours in and moor them tight. Glad it was no worse there this time.

Island, we leave boats out all year round. Storms like this and this wind direction is not common here. The best fishing season here is at winter, especially for squid.

Good grief Ante, those pictures of the boats were dreadful. My Mum and Dad used to live in Malta and I remember one year a bad storm in the Mediterranean where all the boats were just blown up onto the beaches like matches. Mother Nature can be very destructive at times. Glad you have all your essential paperwork done Island and I see your point about ordering ice cream.

    Evening all🙂

Pleased to say there have been a couple of very heavy rain showers since Saturday and the shrubs are looking much happier for it. The soil has also reverted from concrete to crumbly chocolate cake texture🙂

LB - enjoy car browsing - one of my least favourite jobs!

Chive - good luck with the refurbishments

Hazel - bad luck with the boiler - but at least it didn't happen in January!

Ante - you know how much we've enjoyed sailing in Croatia - but I'm glad we're not there today. Bit too bumpy for me!

And you mentioned squid (yum!) which reminds me we tried The Giggling Squid (Thai food) for lunch yesterday (had salt & pepper squid for a starter). It was busy and the food was pretty good - definitely worth trying again. Thank you Rishi (Sunak) for paying half👍. We're looking forward to trying The Brewers (pub) next week.

Think the Eat Out to Help Out scheme is an excellent idea to help reinvigorate businesses on quieter days and get people back into the habit of going out.

Was it Debs who was saying her garden is looking tired and overgrown now? Mine is usually very dry, brown and boring in August (I don't do 'summer bedding' as such). It's all quite pretty through spring and early summer and picks up again in autumn but mid to late summer is very difficult.

This year I have been ruthless at cutting perennials back as soon as they start to go over, get straggly or just start looking past their best - and it's paid off. Lots of fresh new growth and second flowerings. I shall try to stay on top of it all next year as well.

Everyone talks about the importance of dead-heading. I've come to the conclusion that dead-leafing is every bit as important to keep a garden looking fresh & green.

OH is cooking tonight so must be time for an early G&T - cheers!

Evening T'Bird. Good to see you and I'm glad to hear that the Giggling Squid was wonderful. My brother and I are going to EOTHO again next week. I think that will be the last time. It begs the question, where is all this money coming from and surely there will be a payback sooner or later.

Chive I hope the plastering went well.  LB hope the car shopping was successful.  Hazel it’s a shame you had an extraction.  I remember having one years ago, not very pleasant.  Island it sounds very tough for cats where you are, very sad to hear.   Ante hope you had a good day.  Goodnight all, sleep well.
  • Just up a while as it is unbearably warm, and saw the forecast for tomorrow and Thursday; we are now on an orange warning and "severe gusts" on the west, Atlantic coast, Storm Ellen. In the morning I will have to make sure everything movable is safe. Our ferry will be lashed down as with a  spider's web in an inner harbour.  Wish the US would stop sending us their storms! But we are used to it. And the air needs clearing. Summer is over.

Rosie; there are so many good folk working to care for and protect cats over here. TNR; Trap, neuter, release schemes. There is a voluntary group in Kenmare, Klaws, I knew well when I lived near there. They run a Charity Shop; just before I left Kerry they had a " Fix it for a Fiver" event to help folk spay and neuter their cats. I took the two ferals I was caring for then and the very told me she had over a hundred cats in that day. Tonto is so inbred. I cannot get him neutered as the "owner" is the ferryman. He is safe here.
