Goodnight LB, sleep well. Thank you Ante, I really admire what you have achieved and your passion for gardening shows in the beautiful plants and produce you’ve nurtured and grown. My dad was a baker and mum a school cook so I can understand learning techniques from parents. Trial and error is a method I use too, lots to learn but that’s half of the enjoyment. Thank you again that was kind of you to share, Ah well it’s time for me to say Goodnight too now, sleep well everyone.
Hehe LB 😉 'sco didn't arrive till 9.15 😣 So a bit later than he was supposed to. After ticking it all off and then putting it all away it was getting on a bit. I thought it looked like a lettuce too island. Ante, marmalade sounds yummy. Agree with Hazel, you'll make someone a very good husband 🤗 Saying night night too. Hope everyone gets a good night's sleep. Sweet dreams
Suddenly felt hungry and made something simple to eat. Ante you are skilled and have enthusiasm for what you do. I think you will be popular. Alfie has come to sit with me for a while. I’ll have to count some sheep (Ante an English phrase to send one to sleep).
Good morning, and another steamy dark one. although I did hear a small shower a few hours ago. They keep promising real rain but it never arrives.
The plant; I had no lettuce seed at all. I think it is Land Cress. I came across the seed info sheet from a packet yesterday after I had posted and it fits the one kind of Land Cress on the packet and they describe the taste as "tangy". Not sure I like it!
They realised re rose hips that even after boiling they retain high quantities of vitamin C. A winter necessity so the syrup works for me. I make bramble syrup /juice too for that reason. The blackberries are so plentiful here that there are far too many for jam. Bramble jelly takes some beating though; when I had my market stall for those ten years I sold jam as well as knitting. Invented new flavours and combinations.
It dilutes like Ribena. Delicious with ice in hot weather. Along with the malt with the cod liver oil I still take often. Huge jars by post from H and B.
Ante, your story about how you learned about cooking has a lot of similarities with mine. My Dad did all of the cooking of main meals in our house and Mum did the cakes and scones. My three brothers all cook and my two sisters and I cook everything too. My youngest sister is a catering manageress. Dad, who was from the north east of England where one of their specialities is leek growing, was also an excellent grower of all types of vegetables and my love of gardening was born helping him out when I was very young. During the summers we had all our veggies from the garden. Most rewarding. Island, I do not think that plant is landcress as the leaves are wrong. It could be escarole.
Cacoethes: An irresistible urge to do something inadvisable
As I have amended the plant matched the Land Cress on the seed packet leaflet I found. And I had only a few old packets of seed , no lettuce and nothing else of that ilk Glad to have found that page last night. So many varieties of each plant. Bewildering so I was very glad to see the leaflet. It mentions the taste I had sampled too. Been meaning to grow it for years.
Blissful rain music. Sheer magic. Just my shopping list to finish then a quiet day knitting etc. Sheer peaceful bliss.. Have a happy Monday everyone. See thee later or tomorrow.
Good Morning Rosie, Island, LB & Hazel and all to follow, Rosie hope you managed to get back to sleep in the early hours 💤 Island enjoy listening to the rain it’s a soothing sound, most welcome for your garden, LB good luck with your car, hope it goes through without any problem. It’s so interesting to hear how you came to love gardening, what you enjoy from a young age stays with you for life. Despite my mum & dad’s enjoyment of gardening my passion was horses as a young girl. Gardening really started for me when we moved into this home and the garden was just a bare square of grass, I wanted to create something for my family to enjoy and to attract wildlife. Hazel An early start for you, I hope all goes well with the heated towel rail installation today, warm towels are lovely, Enjoy your day everyone.
