Afternoon Island it is a snooze in the shade kind of day, a very nice picture of the stone wall and your helper you’ve been busy with those shears. It’s interesting to hear the Irish name for the Fuchsia, it really is a beautiful mass of flowers that Deora De.
Aaah, all has become clear Hazel - as clear as your windows I guess. Island, I'd sack your helper for lying down on the job! The Fuchsia has really come on with the sun - gorgeous.Chive you look to have had a lovely Anniversary day and thanks for your lovely pictures too. Like Hazel said, I love the patterns created by the swimming ducks - dashing to see if there is any corn on offer. The ducklings are soooo cute.
Cacoethes: An irresistible urge to do something inadvisable
It is SO HOT! Just been out checking all before sleep. Oh DEORA DE is pronounced JORA JAY to be authentic. That bush is ancient one of three here; that stone wall goes back around 150 years. They grow wild now but were from Chile originally, brought in as hedging. Now they are as Irish as the potato! There are three big bushes here, very old all of them and utterly hardy as the one I showed is right on the north Atlantic. The folk here were dirt poor and maybe these were the only flowers they had. I searched for how long they live but no luck. It is gnarled! Great sense of history here. That stone wall; boulders from the shore carried up by hand. Strong folk. The last person to live here, first in the ruined house all his life, then in this place, died ten years ago, aged 100.
