I once suffered a long delay on a short flight from Gatwick to Munich for a skiing holiday because a bunch of Kiwi passengers in their early 20s were already drunk and disorderly on duty free booze before boarding.  The cabin staff didn't want to let them on and the pilot refused to fly but instead of just leaving them behind we all had to wait for them to sober up a bit and garee to have all their booze confiscated.   Two weeks later for the flight home, same problem.

Here, shops can already refuse entry to people not wearing masks and from next week it becomes mandatory anyway.   I don't see how a lone bus or tram driver anywhere is supposed to deal with potentially aggressive people who refuse to wear a mask.   It needs to be a law, not a suggestion.

That's exactly the problem @Obelixx. Unless it's a law, and you have a policeman on every bus/train etc, how can it be upheld? I believe a driver died recently because he wasn't allowing people getting on a bus [ as they weren't wearing masks ] and they assaulted him. Lovely.
Where oldest works, they have security staff at the door, but they've been told they can't stop people coming in if they don't have a mask, and staff in general can't refuse to serve them, so it's pointless, and just leads to people who are being responsible, feeling very annoyed and aggrieved.
They even have disposable masks at the entrance for people to use. Some people just like pushing the buttons or something. Who knows.... :/

Think if I was a bus driver and a passenger refused to wear a mask when they should, id turn off the engine and go and sit in the bus shelter and phone HQ.

There isn't always a bus shelter and it would offer no protection anyway.

Evening. I hope everyone is doing ok.
After a busy day ‘off’ yesterday - SM x2, parcel collection, sister and neice garden distanced visit, moving a fridge for MIL, and a bit of gardening; I have had a quiet and lazy Saturday.

Re the parcel delivery: our local depot is only open 7-9am currently. I swung by on the way to work Wednesday but the queue was half way up the street so I arrive the next day by 06:50 and I was 10th in the queue! I am not sure why they have reduced the opening times, but it’s a pain in the thumb.

Re the garden visit from sister and neice: I did a garden tour, showing key plants, sharing stories about the wildlife, etc. so at the end I asked neice what her favourite bit was... “the shoe!” she exclaimed. This was referring to the tale of the mystery shoe on the lawn one morning, and the fox who we think is to blame. Sweet.

Bet your niece remembers that forever @AuntyRach ....it’s funny the memories that stick with us 😀

Spent the last seven hours making face masks for us and my sisters family.  20 made in all.  It worries me that just as we started to raise awareness of the plastic pollution problem, we have now gone and introduced a disposable mask culture.  So trying to get everyone I know into the washable variety.

I have used scraps of fabric to make masks to match all my summer frocks or tone with shorts and tops @chicky.   OH has a few too and Possum is now well equipped.   If you're using elastic rather than ties, it's best to steam them clean and sterilised rather than machine and fabric conditioner.  Makes the elastic last longer.

We had a very pleasant lunch today with our vintage car group hosted very kindly by one of the members with a very large garden. We all took our own picnics and socially distanced on separate tables. She has about a 1 acre garden surrounding an old farmhouse but was not amused this morning to find her lovingly nurtured  and recently planted ammi majus had been eaten by deer overnight. They are also munching on her roses, much to her fury. She was telling us of the B & B covid guidance they now have to follow, keys have to be disinfected before and after, masks and gloves must be worn in the bedrooms and when bed stripping, carried straight down and washed immediately. The shower curtains even have also to be taken down and washed between guests. Her OH does the waiter service for breakfast while she stays in the kitchen.

@Busy-Lizzie , exciting times but stressful I would imagine.

I'm sure chicklet will like living in Bournemouth, my son and DIL moved there nine years ago and are very happy. There seems to be a lot more going on than here in Bath.

Not sure whether people want to hear this or not [ ignore if you don't want to hear about COVID ]

It now looks definite that a case in USA has contracted COVID for a second time [ reputable on line medical source ]

If true it is of course worrying and means that immunity is very short lived.

The patient is also much sicker the second time.

    Stay safe, have another GIN.
