    Quite.
When I was out on my own with mine, older fairylet held the handle of the pram. That was the rule.
I'm appalled at the lax attitude many parents have to youngsters' safety. Have they no idea how quickly a small child can just take off?  :/

Is that like apostropheitis? I think it's spread to greengrocer's by close contact with vegetable's @philippasmith2. I've had recent contact with tomatoe's and may have caught it.😕

It bugs me when they've got a dog, on a lead, because the dog might run into the road and cause an accident, or be injured, or run away and get lost, or be kidnapped: all of which applies equally to the child, who nevertheless does not get the same protection as the dog.

I'd bet if a dog and child got hurt in traffic, MORE folk would be concerned about the dog

@Hostafan1 I thought you'd covered the "3yr old in the road" bit but I find it's symptomatic of unthinking parenting.

I don't understand why parents don't use reins for their children anymore, obviously they don't need them in an open space like a park or playground but on the street or in shops you need to know where they are, they can so easily get distracted and vanish seemly before your eyes.
I have seen comments about 'their freedom being restricted' but to my mind keeping them safe is most important. My "boys" are all in their forties and parenting seems so different today.

Isn’t restricting their children’s freedom an essential part of the parental job description?

@Suesyn - have you seen the way children behave in shops nowadays?
No parenting of any kind to be seen.  :/
