I have a bit of bare fence I would like to cover up - when is the best time to plant clematis? I have a few group 3's I have my eye on at the moment.

As they are pot grown, anytime really, just keep up the watering.

Thanks @K67 - my ternata are now in the post. It's a good site - new to me.

Polish spirit is now in full swing:

As you can see, the trellis is still quite bare! This is because the armandii (that you might just be able to see on the right hand side) pulled it down earlier this year, so (as punishment I think) the OH has chopped it back and is currently trying to persuade it to mostly grow further into the corner of the garden.

Looks lovely @mikeymustard. Can I be nosey and ask what the beautiful white plant is in the front?

@Pianoplayer its malva moschata, not looking so magnificent after a night of fairly heavy rain 🙄

Does anyone have any thoughts about combining clematis alpina/macrpopetala with a climbing rose? Would the clematis cause issues with training/pruning the rose?

There seem to be a few threads dedicated to roses but I couldn’t find one dedicated to our old friend the clematis (I’ll delete this thread if someone points one out 😁)  I would love to see what varieties others have in their gardens.  I have 4 in total (3 in flower at the moment).  Would love to plant a spring clematis but don’t really have the right spot 🙁

    Anyway, here we go

    C. viticella ‘Madame Julia Correvon’ scrambling up a dog rose

    C. Viticella ‘Super Nova’.

    C. Viticella ‘Rhapsody’

Clematis ‘Andromeda’.  This is doing very well in a shady spot

I love your Clematis they look gorgeous.

I need to replace my clematis support as it’s falling apart.

My clematis are group 1 so I’m not too happy about having to cut off all the lovely growth to provide a new support, but have not choice so buying a much sturdier support would be great.

Can I ask what support you are using? It looks great and really sturdy. I would love to buy one similar!

    thanks
    Thanks 🌻

If you can get hold of a copy of Geoff Hamilton's Cottage Gardens book - Amazon, charity shop, library - it has plans for making a sturdy wooden obelisk that can be modified to be taller/shorter/wider and will save you a lot of money.
