Quick question (and apologies if it's been posted and I've missed it): I'm assuming you don't need to deadhead clematises? Does it make a lot of difference if you do or don't?
Group 2s benefit from being dead headed after their first flush in May/June and, if necessary, pruning to keep in bounds at the same time, then given a good feed. This way they are more likely to produce a second flush of flowers in late summer and these can be left to make those lovely seedheads for autumn interest.

Wow! They're all beautiful, I used to have The President, gorgeous purple one and Montana, that was beautiful, so many flowers my whole fence was covered in pink flowers. I love Clematis. We have a new one which hasn't flowered yet so I'm patiently waiting
