Would the name of a plant put you off buying it?

I generally couldn't care less what a plant is called.  If I like it I'll buy it.  The only plant I have where I hate the name is Hosta 'Praying Hands'.  I have a deep loathing of all things religious, but have kept that as it was given me by a relative not long before they died.

Roses that are named so that they will be bought in remembrance or sympathy put me off. I don't object to the idea, but I don't fancy buying the plants either.
Double entendre or blatantly rude, I would definitely consider😉

The worst for me are roses. Some of the new names make me flinch. Rosa Choccy-Choccy Ding-Dong, Flooby Ruby, Peachy Weachy and such. Roses (flora and fauna in general) should have names with some kind of dignity. I feel the same dog's names. A great dane called flooffikins just seems wrong.

I had a hydrangea 'Pinky-Winky' and didn't spot the name until I got it home.  Lovely looking plant, but I have tried twice, in different locations, and both died.  Serves it right for having a stupid name.

@B3 - the fact that you even have to ask speaks to the sorry state of affairs.

I have the opposite problem with names of rose's. There are some wonderful sounding names like Gertrude Jekyll or Gentle Hermione and then I find out they are PINK!!! 🤢🤨😡
  • Anything superbum and you have my interest 😂 so many plants have horrible names attached to them usually it is the commercial name so easy to not take notice.

There are so many bad rose names bred by men with zero poetic flare.
