Dove, nice looking bread. I am wondering about the apple in the starter recipe. What is it for? Does it change the taste somehow or does it give the starter a better chance to get "alive"?
I used to only have experience with rye starter, used for traditional Czech bread. This week, I made for the first time a starter with wheat flour only (flour, water and a little bit of sugar, nothing more)... and a bread today. I am super happy that it worked.

Gosh, that orchid is so beautifull @Busy-Lizzie.Ā  The May blossom here has been out for quite a while, we can see it in the big wood and fields opposite.

    Good morning all 😊 ā˜•ļøĀ
@edhelka the apple skin has natural yeasts on it so it makes a lively leaven quite quickly Ā ... I used a little honey and added that with cold water to cover the chopped apple in a jar in a warm place for 48 hours, strained the apple out and added wheat flour to the water ... after 12 hours I removed half and fed it with more flour ... 12 hours later I had a really active leaven/sponge/poolish I’ve used some of it to make my bread and frozen the rest in batches. I’m a member of a food forum (mainly ex BBC food forum members) and some of us are currently discussing sourdough ... if you’d like a link to it let me know.Ā

I moved some plants from the polytunnel last year and there must have been some in there , so I've transplanted it into the big bed at the front, opposite the kitchen and some in the bed by the pond.

Aargh!!! Ā Why not mix up some wallpaper paste for the glyphosate and paint it on? Ā I’ve done that before and it works well. Wont wash off in a shower and no danger of spray drift.Ā

I'm not sure there's "enough" foilage yet. I'm keen to crack on , but feel I should wait for a wee while for more foliage to develop

Good morning @Dovefromabove and @Hostafan1 and all to follow.

You certainly have a lot of patience with the bread @Dovefromabove. I was given a bread maker for Christmas, Charlie and I have experimented a bit, pizza bread, Hot Cross Buns and dinner rolls, all very nice but certainly doesn't involve the planning and forethought you seem to have.Ā  :)

Whilst digging out three flowerbeds here (neglected for 3 years) I have found bindweed roots thick and long like I've never seen before. It all going to be seeded with grass seed so hopefully mowing will get rid of any I've missed, but it really is awful stuff and grows so fast from just a tiny bit left in the ground.Ā

Today, hopefully, the forecast is a bit better, Charlie and I are going to make net covers for his brassicas from bamboo that is growing in the garden. I am hoping to find some fine mesh in the supermarket in the gardening aisle, I think I have seen it there before. He has researched growing cauliflowers and apparently they are one of the hardest plants to grow, number 2 in the list of hardest plants to grow he informs meĀ  :open_mouth: Trust us to start with that!Ā

I just hope it stops raining!Ā

Btw @chicky I watched Frankenstein last night. It was very arty, very slow start, but overall I enjoyed it. I am glad I had a good knowledge of the story already, t helped fill in the gaps, but even so very clever, very entertaining and very well acted in my humble opinion. Some really good creative effects too. Tonight apparently we are watching Lego Movie 2 - oh well, variety is the spice of life.Ā  :)

Also reading Miss Oliphant is Completely Fine - also very different but entertaining/interesting. It was a book club read about 3 months ago, unfortunately this is the first chance I've had to get to it, in fact the first book club read I've managed in 3 years, I get all the e-mails and host the meetings at CdeG but that's about it. Ironic isn't it that now I have timeĀ  to read the meetings are cancelled.Ā  :/

Anyway, good day to all.Ā  :)

Well @Hostafan1 Ā if you’ve nothing else to do to keep you out of mischief I’ve got a thousand seedlings to prick out ... you could give me a hand with those ... although where we’re going to put them heaven knows ... šŸ¤”
