    Afternoon all.
Spent most of the day outside. Loads of jobs done so relaxing under the parasol now. I made a garden tour video for the in-laws and one of me potting up courgettes for littlest niece.

Hope you are all well and enjoying the sun, if it’s made an appearance where you are.

    Hello everyone.   :)

Been feeling a bit low so have been reluctant to post on Forkers, but today I'm much more positive... don't know what's been going on, just one of those things.

@Yviestevie - it's great you managed a Zoom meeting with your Mum, and that she's doing ok.  You must be very relieved.  It's good that she's going to be able to chat with her granddaughters, too - I'm sure it'll make a difference to them, as well as to her.

Re the intelligence of birds:  wood pigeons don't even sound very bright, @Fairygirl, but we do have some birds which seem to have a rather higher IQ.  The coal tits, unlike the finches, notice immediately when I've filled the feeder with sunflower hearts and visit the top perches, whereas the chaffinches and goldies are still stuck fighting for a space at the bottom, where the food used to be.  There's a comment in my Irish garden birds book (a welcome birthday prezzie from hubby) that coal tits are the only members of the family to stash food, and therefore are more likely to survive a harsh winter than blue tits, for example.  There's a record of a coal tit single-handedly (single beak-ed-ly?) clearing a bird table of 250g of peanuts in under an hour, stuffing them all into holes in a nearby wall.   :)

Must go and prick out some sweet william seedlings.  The "growhouse" is getting rather full...
Since 2019 I've lived in east Clare, in the west of Ireland.

Hi @Liriodendron glad you're feeling a bit better.  I think we've all our down days during lockdown.  I've been making a little herb garden in some large terracotta pots this afternoon and watering all the pots that are in the shade.  Will do the rest later when the sun goes down.

    Evening all,

Been a busy day again, thank goodness, now sat in the veggie patch with a glass of red listening to the birds and catching the last of the sun.

Just discovered Colorado beetles around the aubergines so picked them all out. Grww, always something!

Met with an electrician today at CdeG, managed to organise him sorting out distribution of power & fitting a chandelier.... been meaning to get it sorted for ages but we're normally open 7/7 so tricky. At least in current circumstances we can get these things done, no more worrying about the toast popping up at the same time the kettle boils. 🙄🤭
The plastering is coming on well and I took the plunge and knocked out a very old fashioned, bulky and very greasy built in cooker hood. The kitchen looks so much better already. Just need to buy a modern (easy clean) alternative now.

Also managed to get some plants in and quite a bit of weeding done, keep finding bindweed bits but I'm on a mission.

One question too; how long do I need to leave my hyacinth leaves on, they are looking very healthy, but leaving no room for summer bedding. It's not a real problem because I've no customers looking at the garden but my pelargoniums really could do with putting out?

Have a good evening all, off to squish a few more beetles. 😅

We used to have posters up in primary school showing how to ID Colorado beetles ... all the children in my school could tell you what one looked like. Now my guess is that it’d be less than one child in a hundred.

    Night night all ...

    Morning all.
What's happened to the sun. Very overcast and not at all enticing.

Morning all. Our forecast is building warmth until Saturday evening, with sunny spells, then much cooler Sunday.

Sorry to hear you've been under-par @Liriodendron - I hope you are on the up now.

I hear that some streets are doing front garden parties on Friday for V.E Day celebrations. I bet hardly anyone would bother making an effort if we weren’t in lockdown.

    Have a good day all.

hello everyone. Been to town, done our food shopping, collected chemist stuff for Hubby, Hubby had another blood test, got our weekly paper, cleared the mail box. Well, that’s our exciting day. Home now and sat on the lounge contemplating my navel, (as they say). Have I beat you Nanny B.? 😁
