Billions of animals are already killed every year .... some for food and some for "sport".
I accept that my decision not to eat anything with a face would not suit everyone. I can just hope that, over time, people begin to eat less animal products. There's evidence that it would benefit the environment too .... sounds like a "win-win" to me

You don't have to be racist or vegan to care about the welfare of animals. I eat meat and wont apologise for that, but I do expect the animals that I eat to be well cared for and killed in a humane fashion. I also don't agree with animals being killed for fun or so called sport whether they are eaten or not. I'll get me 'at an coat now.
My plant based diet has been sabotaged by the birds
I use watercress regularly to ward off sinus problems so decided to set up my own watercress pond complete with solar pump to keep the water moving. First off the baby sparrows found it, that was annoying but also amusing as they tried to get the cress out. Then the baby starlings found it and it has been tossed all over the place now, some of it eaten and the rest useless.
I encourage these birds in my garden but feel I can still be a bit peeved at their behaviour
"The trouble with having an open mind, of course, is that people will insist on coming along and trying to put things in it." Sir Terry Pratchett
snowbound, drought or with mad cow disease or whatever, farmers say how distressed they are by their poor animals dying before they can send them off to be slaughtered or loaded live into lorries for export. I'm a carnivore but I find this hypocritical.
I went veggi, about 40 years ago, after watching a secret filming documentary of animals being killed. Married a meat, and 2 meat bloke, who hates most veg and salad! (all salad) Everyone going veggi or vegan would not save the planet, there isnt enough room for all the veg to be grown, what would happen to the animals, the farmers! On a vegan diet, you have to be very careful to get all the vits you need, especially B12. We have a local butchers in our village, the meat is actually living opposite, on the South Downs, it looks to me like it has a nice life, all be it short. I do now occasionally eat fish or chicken, love my eggs and cheese. Cannot, however, get my head round "fake" meat products, I have tried Linda Macartnies veggi sausages, to me they look and taste like meat, cant see the point of that. Apart from the fact that this stuff is super processed. I have never actually eaten a steak in my life. (had mince as a kid) Am happy withou meat, made a stir fry the other day (yes, have got Hubby eating some) I will put mushrooms in for me, chicken, and praws this time, I can put out what we both eat. He used to love a steak, had to be fillet, I made him cook them, he likes them medium rare, so it only takes him a couple of minutes, BUT, the last few hes had, he says have been horrible, so actually doesnt want them anymore. Although, the buthers is obviously more expensive tha a supermarket, you know is organic, well treated, I can buy one chop, or a couple of sausages.
@wild edges - because some people see every other comment as racist, whether it is or not. They are 'takers of offence' where there is none to be taken.
Exactly that. It would actually seem that he deliberately avoided mentioning any country in his 'rant'.
Nanny Beach, I agree with you about the problem with vegan bacon, sausages etc. If somebody is so opposed to eating animal products why would they want to eat something which looks, smells and tastes exactly the same?
