A good thing indeed @John Mac, and a lot more pleasant doing it in this weather, rather than the usual April stuff!  :)
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...

So dry here the soils gone to dust! Unreal for the west of Scotland! Happy days though....

That’s a brilliant old photo, not seen that one before! I live just over the Tower Hill but used to live near the church tower you can see near the point.
  • I took some annual leave and spent most of it in the garden. We are both aching from the amount of material we had to dispose of but it has created so much space.

The border bed has now been tilled, composted and conditioned. I hired a chipper and god rid of the mountains of brush then used the chips as mulch.

I removed the old perished asphalt path, thinking of replacing with a self binding gravel if the fall of the garden isn’t too steep.

We also discovered buried treasure in the form of this cast iron lawn roller. It was under a great pile of earth and should make a nice feature when we have planted the borders.

    Hope everyone is well
  • @FumblingGracefully, what a find! That will make a stunning feature in your garden, which, by the way, is looking tremendous, you’ve both worked like troopers, well done. Looking good👍
It was blissful and brutal all at the same time haha

I'd love to hear about (and see) how this garden has progressed, @FumblingGracefully

    Hope you're well!

  • My friend took out 40 conifers to create this garden on the front cover of this hospice magazine. She moved a year ago and the current owners do not open the garden.

I think you're doing the right thing removing it and with all those other trees you will still have quite a bit of shade.

Admittedly not a huge amount of progress later in the summer and winter as we turned our attention to renovating some of the inside of the house.

Will have to get some updated photos but I plan to remove a few more trees and potentially start the process of terracing the garden in the spring.

Hope you are well and have a lovely Christmas when it comes!

Wow what a fantastic garden, could get lots of inspiration from this one!

I can’t even begin to imagine the work involved in removing 40 of them.

Looking forward to getting stuck back into the garden again. We planted some wildflower and it attracted lots of pollinators which we enjoyed watching.
